Talk to wolfie, he had a post where he is using what looks to me to be an anvil painted white, as a gun rest. Maybe he could ship it to you??

I bought a kolswa several years back. Traded it to a black smith for a custom knife. But I was told to check about the anvil being "dead"?? The guy told me to take a 1/2" steel bearing and whatever height you dropped the bearing from it should bounce back to where you released it from. About the highest I tried was from a 10' ladder. The bearing came right back up.

Was a full time farrier for many years. Antique anvils around here average 2.50 per pound.
Go to the NC tool website and purchase a new one for less than the antiques. The great things about purchasing new is that you can also purchase the anvil tools if you are planning on blacksmithing.

Around here real anvils are out of reach for price! Just saw a 210-pound quality unit sell for $2400 at auction.
Main thing is give it a ring test. Strike it mildly with a hammer and listen. Just a thud and dent means it is cast iron
and not worthy of a workstation.

I bought this cheapie at Harbor Freight because I needed something to beat the pile of smashed traps that I get every year back into shape. It works well for that but I doubt it would be useful for much else. It’s very soft steel, the top is all dinged up just for me beating traps and spring pins back into shape.

But for the $60 price tag (at the time) it does the job, it’s a 55 pounder.
