On the news last night a Officer in Vermillion, SD had a Mt Lion cross in front of his patrol cat around 5 AM right in town it’s pretty cool to see. One advantage to having a camera around is if you run into a Karen/Richard that make up problems or if you have a accident.

I absolutely hate the way everything and everyone is under survelliance these days. So, no. I agree with you to a point.....I've seen them be useful too. They have helped lots of innocent people during unlawful stops and tyrant police officers. It's amazing how law enforcement change their attitude once they find out they are being recorded. Yep! "Audit the Audit" is a great YouTube channel for this.

Law enforcement are ALWAYS being recorded, and they’re well aware of that fact. I don’t see their attitudes/demeanor’s changing when they learn that you’re recording them too. If that’s the reason you’re wanting a dash cam, I’d save your money and just do a public records request for they’re dash cam and body cam videos if you find yourself needing it. Unless you’re a conspiracy theorist. In that case, definitely buy the best dash cam you can afford. I’m actually in the market for one to help law enforcement by providing them with evidence if I’m involved in a crash or if I’m a victim of theft or vandalism while parked in remote areas checking traps.

Flicker Shad, your right, those situations do exist. I shouldn’t imply that they don’t. I do think they are more isolated to the occasional poorly run small town PD. And maybe you live in, or regularly travel through one of those small towns.
I think any video footage of an officer being surprised to find out he/she is being recorded, is likely old footage. Anyone working in that line of work in this day and age has to assume they’re being filmed at all times.
Sorry to drag you off topic!
Also, in most situations, if an officer is risking a write up by turning his/her mic off to rip someone’s backside, they probably earned it. Just my $0.02

Get a front and rear camera and one that will record to your phone, It is like having a cheap but dependable lawyer in your front seat. First rear ender will save you a mountain of grief . x2 I made the mistake of getting a cheap one. Spend the money on a good camera and it will be worth it.

I don’t have one. I should have one on a personal vehicle, front and rear. Tesla customers have shared accident videos with me. There’s no question as to who is at fault. I’ve also had some people do some real stupid things in front of me. It would be nice to have documentation. Also, about 1,000 years ago, I worked for an insurance company. I would read accident reports and it was often, you realize with two people reporting on the same accident, one is definitely lying.

Nope never had one and most likely won't. Never been rear-ended by a car or anything else that I thought the price of a camera would offset. I know there's always that one chance you could get hit and the person would lie or take off. Reading some of these responses makes me wonder how many accidents they've been in, multiple? Most people I know have never been in one where they would have needed footage of it to prove anything. If it makes you feel safer and have the money to burn by all means buy one for your car, front entrance, garage, babysitter cam or whatnot. I'll go without. I absolutely hate the way everything and everyone is under survelliance these days. So, no. ^^^^^^^^ This too

So, no. ^^^^^^^^ This too Last accident I was in happened at 1 am on a Saturday night on my way home from a late shift, i was on HWY65 headed north a few miles south of Cambridge where Its a 4 lane HWY, not many cars on the road at that time when a car came up behind me at high speed to ride my bumper flashing it light, I was in the right hand lane going 70 in a 65 (IK so sue me) plenty of room to go around me with no other traffic to interfere it they road my bumper for a mile or so then went around me and suddenly cut back infront of me and then slammed on their brakes causing me to slam into them I awoke in the hospital and found that I was being charged with a road rage incident and running down and apparently trying to kill the two 20 something’s in the other car, both kids of good family IE well off if not rich and connected to many in power and n the area, and no one was taking my word for what happened, after all the kids had no reason to do something like that Guess they didn’t think about me having a dash cam, it recorded everything both front back and sides, I made a copy of the video and then turned the original over to my lawyer not the police as they had already proven they were not on my side, still with the evidence right in front of them it still took weeks to clear my name and still in a legal battle for restitution and recovery Get one if you want or not your call but with the way things are nowadays it’s cheap insurance
