I will start it off.
I was heading home late one day and at my friends pull out at his trail head he was loading up his machine. I stopped and he asked if I could help him find a wolf that was on a drag. I off loaded me double track 1983 Alpine and he said follow his trail up this ridge. So he was riding behind me on my machine. Several miles climbing up this ridge he said turn here I think the wolf is down here. I said have you been down this slope before, oh yah it’s okay he replied. Well. Down the slope we go. At first not bad I had control. All of a sudden its steep like I can’t stop and all of a sudden a branch or something took the windshield off while I am laying back on the seat. Well we came to the bottom of the hill in almost one piece. I broke trail back to the truck loaded up and he bought me a new windshield. The next day he went back on my nice wide packed trail and we had passed within 50 feet of a huge grey wolf tucked in a root wad in his 114!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

It was back in 1981 and I had a small road line mostly for water sets under bridges and the like. One of the last bridges was on the Mary's river near Oregon State U where I had just finished up my 4 1/2 years. On this particular late afternoon I had been invited to a formal event from a girlfriend still attending school so I was dressed in a suit. But was taking advantage of my long trip (35 miles) to check traps under that last bridge. So....I pulled up next to the bridge and left the engine running, took off the suit and layed it on the seat, put on old clothes and ran down under the bridge. Had several critters so it took a little while to remake sets, etc.

When I got back up to the car there was a city cop car pulled up next to mine and he was pacing the bridge and peering down into the waters. Boy was he mad when he found out I was just a trapper instead of a jumper! I got read the riot act over that one. Apparently I had even left my car door mostly ajar. He asked in a screaming voice what the game warden would think of me trapping within city limits?!!!! Well at that time a city needed to have a specific ordinance prohibiting trapping. Anyway, he sure was mad.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!
