you may have heard of the many issues of our catch and release criminals justice system in MKE
well for years this has been an issue mostly juveniles stealing cars and joy riding , cost millions maybe billions at this point in all the damages
Kia could have reversed the circuit years ago so that with out the chip reader in the ignition the car wouldn't start this is stupid easy to steel , like movie type stupid easy.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
plastic is easy to rip out of the way or if you want to do it carefully it is 2 screws
then a pin to push out if your doing it carefully because like this guy you want to put your friend's car back together
if you don't care screw driver , jam it in rip down breaking the lock cylinder off and then a usb type A is the correct shape to reach into the ignition switch and turn the switch to run and start
if you know any one with one of these cars 2010-2021 Kia and Hyundi basically all US models you might get them a steering wheel lock of some sort to deter theft some
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
If I had a KIA I would probably be hoping someone steals it.
possibly
even if your car is bad there is something to be said for it gets you back and forth to work
unfortunately these cars represented something a lot of these people could afford to drive to work so they could do the things they enjoyed when not at work. banks gave loans , they were making payments and working.
a few years ago there was an article they had caught a 15 year old kid for like his 2nd or 3rd time but he estimated he had stolen around 30 cars for his multiple times getting caught he was serving time in juvenile detention. but it wasn't very long
grand theft auto used to mean some amount of prison measured in years not days
now even if caught and 2-3rd offence they are getting very minor time
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Nothing wrong with Kias. I helped my daughter buy a Rio thirteen years ago. It's a simple, basic car. She drove the crap out of it for years before getting a job overseas. Drove it all over the Country and back and forth to DC regularly. Zero repair issues, just regular maintenance.
It's still in my garage. It fires right up and takes her wherever she want to go when she's home on vacation.
A lot easier way to steal a car , any car , not just a KIA or Hyundai.
Just go to a gas station and wait. In a short period of time somebody will leave their car running at the pump while they go inside the gas station to get their change or something. Car has the keys , it is unlocked , alarm is off and it might even have a full tank of gas. I've seen people do this all the time with nice cars just begging to be stolen.
I agree with lugnut. Nothing wrong with driving what you can. It's a little baffling to me that some of you guys are bashing a Kia or Hyundai then posting about your Chevys transmission going out that a few years old. Or the laundry list of all the recalls the big automakers are having anymore. I know someone who has a basic Kia Rio and like lugnuts daughter drives the crap out of it with very little maintnance.

the owner also knows it is gone right away so they have the police called
there is plenty of this also , but you can also shoot them or threaten to shoot them ect..
they are smart enough to know they want the ability to kill themselves with their stupidity driving and not catch a bullet
if you watch the video many even are wearing their seat belts , they know that helps them survive the crashes better and walk away before anyone gets there
also they are of that generation where a parent never let them go anywhere not buckled so seat belts for many are habit
if you park it on the street and go up to your apartment it is hours maybe even the next day before you realize it is gone
find an easier theft without video or confrontation , they steal the car unseen because it is so fast , drive it off joy ride till the tank is empty or they need to go home and if they haven't crashed it dump it. they may be doing this weekly they don't want to get caught by their 15th car they might get caught. it takes a few times getting caught in MKE to get any actual time.

Yeah, Kia is a cheap car, that's the point, and they just plain work..
Son and daughter both had one for awhile going to college, zero problems, son sold his with a zillion miles on it to his cousin who drove it in the Bronx, Lots of fender benders but the kid made a mint on settling for cash at the scene, no sense repairing anything, lol
He finally sold it when he got married, it's probably still running!,
This year, black teenagers in Columbus, Ohio have stolen many thousands of 2010-2021 Kias and Hyundais, that use a mechanical key. Most are stolen near Ohio State. The first few times I heard the weekly numbers, I thought they actually were the to date this year number. I wouldn't have guessed the amount of cars stolen in an average week was stolen in an entire year.
An enterprising young man started a private uber by stealing a car in one city, driving it home and dumping it. Next day, he steals another and then drives it presumably to work, and dumps it. That night he steals another and drives it presuably home. Been going on for several weeks!
Every kid needs a Dog and a Curmudgeon.
Remember Bowe Bergdahl, the traitor.
Beware! Jill Pudlewski, Ron Oates and Keven Begesse are liars and thiefs!

Is Columbus PD on the Catch and release plan also ?
all of ILL goes officially catch and release , can't hold people on cash bail after Dec 31
Many of the black kids stealing the cars are so young, that since the crime isn't violent, they just let them go. Some non profit used tax dollars to set up a football camp for the thieves, who they call "Kia Kids". There's been at least one 8 year old black kid who has stolen multiple cars. One 11 year old black kid was found to have stolen a huge amount of cars. One of the Columbus officers estimated that the 11 year old stole over 160 cars this year alone. The black kids mostly steal the cars and wreck them for fun, rather than profit off of them.
Some of Columbus's black, liberal judges actually criticized police for wanting to detain the black kids stealing cars. After several accidents and deaths of the young thieves, the police temporarily got more support, but that didn't last long.
Some Black leaders in Columbus have claimed that the owners of the stolen vehicles are to blame for not better protecting their vehicles from theft.
