No clouds, low humidity, the Hunter's moon is very large and bright. How is visibility in your area?

SPECTACULAR!! According to a PBS program I saw, the moon's surface is made up of 30-60% glass, which causes the brightness of the reflected light.

I don't know why it's called a hunter's moon. I have never experienced good blacktaik hunting close to a full moon.
It's probably a good moon if you are hunting at night though. Maybe that's how the name originated.

When I was 17 on a Saturday morning at my parents clothing store Old Roy came in for a coffee. He says son when your shooting with a full moon at a hundred yards aim 12 inches high to hit the deer. I was like why would I be shooting in a full moon, but let it pass. When my dad came in I told him about it he chuckled and said when you need to feed your family you learned those things and it was pretty common back then. That was in 1979, that I was told that, still remember, never put it to the test.

Likely because it's the full moon closest to the fall season that starts the hunting season.

With no snow yet, it is as daylight on the mountains here.

Full moon in winter when the bush is cloaked in snow, its like daylight walking around once your eyes adjust.Love walking on the skidoo trail on those nights in the bush-so peaceful and quiet, except for the snow squeeking underfoot when you walk, and the odd loud crack of a spruce splitting from the cold.
Overcast here too Bob,but the bright full moonlight shines thru although much diffused.

It's because it's when hunting season commences. It doesn't just apply to the full moon, but the entire lunar cycle, including waning, waxing and new moons. It's the moon that follows the harvest moon... which is the moon closest to the fall equinox. In the old days, once the harvest was in, then it was time to hunt and preserve the winters meat supply.

Good mid day deer hunting here during a full moon. I sleep in and go to stand at 8am even 9. I've shot deer many times within an hour.

It's pretty bright here tonight

Here's another from last night. The moon is behind the tree and reflecting off the leaves. Looks like fireflies

My phone wouldn't take a good picture of it but the moon was sure bright last night. I didn't need a flashlight and if there has been a snake layin in the driveway his scales would have been shimmering in all that light.

Here it is at sunrise just before it drops over the horizon.
