In the 80s I sold insurance for Prudential. There were four dog breeds that disqualified me front writing a homeowner policy. Every policy carried $100,000 of liability coverage at a minimum. I usually sold $300,000 for $4 more. Not much profit in insuring pit bulls.

Sad.

I'm an independent insurance agent. I represent 16 different companies. Not a single one will insure you if you own a pit bull.

Any other breeds or just pits?

My grandma had a poodle that was the devil, but I dont hate all poodles.

All you have to do is google vicious dogs. You will find pit bulls are at the top of the list.
Insurance companies live by statistics. By far the most vicious dog bites come from pit bulls statistically. There are a few other breeds that run a close second and insurance companies won't insure them either.

There are more labs that bite than pit bulls. The difference is that there are a lot more labs out there than pit bulls. Plus, the lab bite aren't nearly as severe.

I feel for some people owning a pit bull is a status symbol.

I would never let my family around any pit or pit cross whatever-way way too many horror stories-why would anyone ever want to own one of those things. Every one I have ever seen were owned by seedy people. Just my take but how many attacks do you need to see and hear about and have people say they aren't bad dogs-ya right.

Lots of communities dont allow pitbulls. I over heard a older member of the community once say. == A pit bull would be safer at Michel Vicks house than to live out here ! LoL!

Here is a list of dogs most of my insurance carriers won't insure you if you own one. I don't totally agree with all of them:
Pit bulls
Staffordshire terrier
Akita
Dobermans
Rottweilers
Chows
Wolf Hybrid
Pres Canario

I believe the dog was a pit bull. The officer shot it and it was later euphonized.

About 20 years ago a little girl got off the school bus in Rockingham County, NC and started to walk past one home to get to hers. She was killed and nearly eaten by two pits. She knew the dogs and the dogs knew her. So sad.

I had a healer for 14 years. She nipped two people. Each person was acting goofy and dancing, which is not an excuse. I had her on a leash at a very small Christmas Parade. She got away and ran under four horses that school kids were riding. Fortunately for all, nothing happened but it could have been ugly. That dog is sorely missed. She could track a shot deer. Passed two years ago. No dog now.

Awhile back a young mom sent her 3yo. son out to sit on the back porch step to eat his popsicle so it wouldn't drip on the floor in the house, she came outside 5 min later to find a neighbor's two pitbulls quartering him. mad

The only good pitbull is a dead pitbull.
