Hi Everyone,

I am new to trapping, only my second season this year. I recently used black speed dip on some of my foothold coil spring traps. It has only been a few days, but they are a bit sticky to the touch. Will this go away? Has anyone else experienced this? Any info would be great, thank you.

I haven't used it in years but temperature and humidity could cause your stickiness- I would give it 7-10 days before you hit the panic button. I currently use 50/50 acetone and rusty metal primer when I dip.
Good Luck

I would be willing to bet the traps will be "tacky" for a long time. I don't know the cure, I am just relating my experience the one time I tried Speed Dip.

If you used regular gas and not Coleman fuel, they will remain sticky longer has been my experience using Speed Dip.

The brown speed dip dries hard.Use the black for first coat then use brown the next day.Best to do in spring and let cure.

Thank you for all of the replies. Upon inspection today, the traps are much less sticky. Today was much sunnier than previous days. Hopefully they continue to dry out. Thanks again.

You'll be better off if the next time you use dip if you do it in summer when it's sunny and 90 out.

For future reference, I think some people mix it with extra fuel so it dries faster.

I had some new body grips I dipped during midsummer and after a couple months they still had a few sticky spots so I rolled them around in a small container of waxed dirt. It seems to have worked very well. No more sticky spots and The Traps work perfectly.

I usually thin it down and mix extra fuel, as it does seem to dry faster. I’ve been told to add more gas than the label calls for, which I think is good advice. I usually dip them early summer, let them dry in the heat, and they stay tacky for a long time until the weather cools down. I personally wouldn’t dip them during the fall, as without summer heat I’d imagine they would take forever to fully dry. For me, speed dip seems to be so inconsistent. Sometimes I get good results, other times not so much..

I mix mine pretty thin, like 6:1.

In any case, the first time you set them in dirt they won't be sticky any more.
