Awesome, thank you! One of my favorite animals to trap but haven’t done it in several decades.

Does he catch many fox up high? Back in the 70’s all that was up high were Red Fox and marten, along with beaver and muskrats. Loved the Colorado high country, spent several falls up there starting in October above 10,000 ft and working on down.

He trapped colorado from 89 til they banned it also.

He said there were lots of foxes I. Colorado then.

In Wyoming He catches fox at 10000 plus feet. They're not as plentiful as they were in the past but they're big and heavy..even this time of year.
I have one from 2 years go on my wall and it's the size of a coyote..it's huge!

He wanted to know what you thought of the quality of marten you were catching early at 10000 feet? How did they grade?

I was also a fur buyer then and never had any problems selling them. Sure their fur wasn’t as heavy as a couple months later but they were darker in color. Lots of trappers today just do not understand what the climate is actually like at 10,000 feet and higher in October. And the red foxes were big and beautiful.

Have some pictures somewhere- might post them later if it’s ok with you.

Absolutely post them.... I'd like to see them.

He reads on here when he can get service which isn't much right now but I know he'd like to see them as well.

I can have him send me some set pics before the marten to post if you'd like.

He caught one today at over 11000 feet. He didn't have enough service to send it to me so ill get it this evening. He texted me a few minutes ago.

He's up to 6 now

That would be awesome. Thanks for taking us on the ride along, great thread!

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Back then we had to use a regular camera so don't have many pictures to put on here but copied a few to do them digitally.

Here is a high country fox.
[Linked Image]

And here is an example of what they looked like compared to others we had at that time in colorado.

[Linked Image]
They are the ones with the big bushy tail.

Dang! Those foxes are AWESOME!! the one in thw trap is bushy as all get put.

Our foxes here rarely have the white tip on their tails.

Those marten are very pretty colored.

Do their color fade later in season?

I didn't see one thing wrong with your fur.

Thank you so much m for posting your pics!

I really enjoyed.

Yes their color faded as winter progressed, both the marten and red fox. Coyotes got whiter but way too heavy fur that they used only for trim.

Don't know Jerry or Catherine.
Jerry is the model of how you make a living trapping.
Post after post on trapperman is about making a living trapping. Those days are over unless you are willing to do what Jerry is doing.
