Bet NO ONE called for criminal charges in that situation. Why?

Was there a conviction?

Was there charges or criminal investigation

Gotcha. Yes my point is some screaming the loudest about one cheat just dismiss others and I ask why. Ones on here would spit on the fishing cheats and condemn them but would pee down their leg to get another's autograph

the purse was 30K most bank robbers get about 3K and do 10 years

so what is the punishment for 30K in embezzling or fraud ?

it was theft by fraud of 30K

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I haven't followed the story completely , but I heard the fuzz confiscated a boat that the two DB's won in a previous tournament .

Did they cheat in that tournament also ? Probably , but unless there is proof how does a government agency start taking personal property ?

I don't think that's accurate Pete, with respect.

I'm also wondering if trying to cheat ( they did not succeed ) warrants the same conviction as if they had received the 30 grand and found guilty of cheating and theft at a later time ?

Even if they wanted to discipline in-house it only takes 1 mad fisherman to file charges. Since event officials were tipped off before the weight-in makes me believe that guys had caught on to their scheme from previous tournaments.
This is not the first case of this, there was one on a bass tour years ago where winnings were near $100 grand.

I do understand the though that this is a non-violent felony and they shouldn’t lose all their rights, but I believe it’s common for courts to return those rights in these kind of cases.

Catch you can't win here, but I see what you are saying. Some crimes are over prosecuted and are under prosecuted. FWIW I think there is an appropriate punishment for want they did , and they should receive that punishment. I'm not sure, like you, that this is the right punishment. I have a problem with taking guns from non-violent offenders.

They have "won" about 300,000 total over a few years. The one guy failed a polygraph at another tournament so they didn't get paid if I read correctly. Most likely all 300,000 was while cheating. I don't think they should lose the right to vote or possess guns. These are not dangerous crimes. Pay restitution and possibly a life ban of tourny fishing.

Sis and brother in law got shorted about 40g a couple years ago on a cattle deal by fraud. Talked to FBI because because it took place between states. FBi took the time to verify the account where the money went was still open but said if it wasn't for at least 6 figures they wouldn't investigate it. Guess if it was fish instead of someone's livelihood it would have been different. Two sets of standards.

Getting back your voting rights is easy, but getting back your gun rights, in most states is very difficult and sometimes impossible.

They can take anything that was used to violate if they chose.

This is a good point and has been brought up on our local news. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
