You fellas who live in big cat country or mess with Bob's alot: had a friend ask me about these pictures. They look like cat kills to y'all ? Told em I'd ask some folks more knowledgeable then myself







Would prefer no to say where these where taken for a few reasons just wanna know what y'all think.

Deer look like the work of a bear. Sheep could be about anything.

Lions and bobcats both cover up what they dont eat most of the time. kick dirt rocks pine needles grass etc over the remains

My uneducated first thought with the way it looks like the guts were targeted and the kills not covered.

I've seen and worked a lot of lion kills here in the southwest and does not look like cat kills to me. I also vote for dogs especially given that the country and the deer species indicate these photos may be from England.

They are not cougar kills.

I would agree canine attached the sheep. If the sheep was from the flock in the background of the deer in the third pic >> loose running dog/s.
The deer have had something chewing on them capable of breaking thru bone. But may not have been the actual killers. Predators are all opportunistic feeders.

I live in an area with lion, bobcat, coyote, dogs and occasional wolf and have seen kills left by all. Without seeing things up close scat, track bite marks I would say the first pick could be a coyote with the neck bites the rest, my best guess is dogs. Bears and cats would drag the kills a distance and cover what was left. Coyotes will grab by the neck and hold on till dead. Dogs will kill for fun grab and bite what ever they can get a hold of. Bears would have eaten most of what was there covered the rest. Cats will skin an animal out much like a trapper from the hind end and not do much damage to the pelt.

I raise sheep -- looks like dog/coyote to me - more like dog actually with the middle being eaten so badly . Numbers of animals and timeframe also tell a story - as does time of day if known.

Your pics look like different things with sharp teeth doing the predation.

As an example, this axis was killed by a lion - throat punctures (they eat out the body cavity like a surgeon many times... and they usually don't cover their prey)... and then the coyotes fed on the flanks and made a mess as coyotes always do.

I caught the 92 lb. male lion day 1 and then I caught 6 coyotes around this axis in the days to follow.
The Axis was killed 80 yards from the main ranch house in south central Texas. Trying to seek safety probably.

CSI'ing the carcass is best done with eyes on.

The 2 pictures of a sheep laying in green grass with a flock of sheep behind it looks like a cat kill to me. Cats will pluck out fur or wool in this case, coyotes will just eat the fur/wool. Cats also tend to feed on the organs first but pull out and not eat the stomach as in this case. Coyotes tend to eat the hind end first and will eat the stomach. The other pictures don't have enough there for me to tell much.
