I apologize for starting another thread but my questions have been buried in the other thread about Tomahawk traps.
An elderly gentleman is wanting a trap for armadillo. Ok, I took a Comstock trap to the elderly couple's place and let them try to set it and neither of them had the strength to set the trap. So, I am now thinking of either a Wickenkamp #302 trap or a Williams trap. Both of those traps seem to have a good name for holding coons but how would they be for armadillos? They are both treadle-triggered with the protruding door when set and the doors are locked with a ring. I believe that the elderly couple could easily set those traps. What do yall think.

Thanks in advance.

Yep heard that from a lot of people that don't know about those traps.
I built them for years , and they're great for releasing unwanted animals.
Just roll them over.
If set on flat ground , those traps will not roll over.
Used them for years , and never had one roll over unless I pushed it over.
That's something trap makers started so people would buy their traps with locks on the doors.
Just isn't needed and just ups the cost of the trap.
I'll set my trap up against yours any day , and unless it's set on a slant , it will not roll over.
There's no need to set them on a slant in the first place.
They see and smell the bait and will go around the trap until they get in it and sets off the pan.
As long as it's made with good 14 gauge wire , it will hold a big coon , don't know anything about armadillos , but don't see them being as strong as a big coon.

Dillers can be much worse than coon, in my opinion. I've never had a trap to flip but I'm sure that it happens. Dillers are hard on the doors, they actually ram it and sometimes just push and will destroy a non-quality door.

I ordered them a Williams trap. We'll find out if it works for armadillos the next time dillers start plowing their yard. It seems to be a really stout built trap with a strong door. We'll see.

I don't know anything about the Williams traps you mentioned, but I do know about the Wickencamp traps.

The video for the Model #302 trap is here: https://youtu.be/IjwV5QWMtNc

I have a couple Wickenkamps. I'm not sure if an animal could tear them up. I have a friend that works with Leon so it takes the delivery charges down to around $0. smile

I don't know about the traps mentioned above but I've got some duke cage traps that I've caught dozens of dillers in through the years and they held them fine. I don't think armadillos are near as hard on a cage trap as a coon. I've never had one to tear a trap up so that I had to straighten something out to get it to work. I've cussed plenty of coon for wrecking a cage though.
