Hopefully it is a big book they throw at them. No sense in that.

There’s a fellow on here that might think the punishment is too harsh.

How mich salmon can the indians keep?

Danny. This isn't about Indians. It's about stupid people doing stupid things. They will lose their fishing rights in Michigan and if Colorado is a reciprocal state they will lose there fishing rights in Colorado plus all the states that have agreed to the reciprocal law.

What is ironic to me, that the biggest killers and thorough wasters of salmon in massive numbers, in almost all headwaters they try to migrate into, are sea lions , who are protected . Yet lounge around weirs and entry ways taking hunks out of every fish they catch , letting them swim off to die.

A video I saw on one fat lazy bull astounded me on how many full sized fish it killed . They never had a chance to even get into the river from the delta port of entry. Full of eggs, all killed.

Anyway......sheesh

From articles I read, it seems as though the ole boys that got got were cited for illegal fishing methods, taking over limit, and fishing without a license. They were ticketed and fined for said offenses and that's that.

To me, that is perfect. None of their stuff was stole by the DNR or feds, nor were they charged with a nefarious felony law, criminal tools. They broke the law and had what they got coming. Simple, fair and square. Also, I commend the DNR because they gave the fish to people in need, kudos!!

Sorry those salmon do not look very tasty to me; they may have wanted them for the egg to sell.

In Pa it's the Russians that do that.

They take a ton of steelhead to take back to Ohio and elsewhere to sell.

We approached one group back in the early 2000's and told them that snagging was illegal. They started speaking Russian, acting like they didn't know English. One of the guys with us spoke fluent Russian and told them in their native tongue that it was illegal. They hightailed it out of there, but not before we got their license plate numbers. Not sure if they ever caught them or not.

Knew a group from Louisiana years ago , that would can their fish in pressure canners at their camp site.
It was good tasting , was very interested in their canning.
As far as I know they caught their fish legally , and didn't break any laws.
Nice bunch of people.
I canned at home , so I took a few and canned my own at home.

The problem here is so many, our Wildlfie Department needs to stop giving the natural resources away and start selling them. Even if you sold it for bottom dollar, something is better than nothing and families who need it still get food at a far cheaper discount. Just weird that they didn't have their license or anything.

The real question is how many years have they got away with it, I mean in WA, you wouldn't dare do something like that. Just because all the different tribes would come after you, claiming their mouth net contraption caught less this year and they were wondering why, but now they know.

Fine seems to low, less than 10 dollars a pound for illegally taken salmon? Seems light. Atleast they didn't get caught down at the VA cheating in a card tournament.

Was thinking the same thing . Awful dark.
Not sure I would keep many of those for my consumption.

I don't quite know what those "fishermen" were going to do with those spawners? Pretty poor eating when they are in that condition. Maybe they were catching them just for the eggs?
