Males are out looking for love. As long as my hand don't smell like a female I'm safe from being violated

How much bigger are the females? Tarantulas sell for decent money around here.

If that thing just happened upon me, I'd scream like a 9 year old girl. However, if it was a double dog dare, I could do it. grin

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Females are generally about 1/2" bigger than males. It's an Arkansas Chocolate tarantula.

Nice! Tarantulas are super cool. There was a time I had a room dedicated to keeping and breeding them. Had anywhere from 200-500 in there at a time, plus scorpions and other arachnids. The North American species are mostly laid back, I had some African baboon spiders that had a seriously short fuse - but were cool because they would rear up and stidulate (hissing sound) to warn you off. Some of the arboreal species are crazy fast too - like it seems like they teleported to a new spot fast. Good times.

They're on the move in southern Missouri. Been seeing them on the roads for a couple weeks now. Used to catch them when I was a kid by putting a fruit jar over them and slapping the jar. It makes them jump and you can turn the jar over.

That's awesome, J Staton! I had several Tarantulas in my teens; I miss them. Now I just keep the locals well fed. grin

My sentiments exactly.
Many years ago my wife and I went to stay with some friends in another state. They had a tarantula in an aquarium they kept in their spare bedroom. I just flat out admitted there was NO WAY I was sleeping in the same room with that thing. Even offered to surrender my man card if I had to, but they moved it out for me. eek
