Had to put our dog down almost a year ago and we've finally been thinking about getting another one. We like the looks of the Catahoula leopard dog. Does anybody have one or know someone who has one that could give a little bit of first hand knowledge about them? Thanks

Couple guys I no have them, I'm very partial to my black mouth curs but the catahoulaas seem like great easy going dogs eager to please and intelligent.

Sorry to hear about about putting down your dog, good choice of dog catahoula.
I've known of several people that have them/ or had them.

Don't know of any breeders of pure breds, but brother in-law has a mutt that's airdal/catahoula/shepherd.
Idaho shag. We board it for him in the winter it's a good trapline dog. Just high maintenance with the hair.

Let me sugar coat this

Jv220 posted that he had a litter of Catahoulas born back on October 4th.

I have 2, 1 year old catahoulas. They are smart and easy to train, but I have not trained them to hunt. Here's Louie, my male.

A few years ago my neighbor found two pups along the side of the road and took it in. Vet said they where catahoulas and great all around dogs so my neighbor kept one and gave the other away. The vet was right as "Elvis" was a great companion to his two young boys and whenever you wanted to know where the boys were you hollered for Elvis. He could tell a good stranger from a bad one and let them know it too. Not afraid to take on a large boar coon or mad cow or bull. Elvis passed a couple of years now but the boys still talk about him.
