Lots of marten in the Snowies, he should have good luck there too if weather permits.
Does he have tracks or a snow machine for later ?
We usually see marten in camp and out in the forest during elk season, they are curious little animals. Had more than one occasion where one jumped on our wall tent midday to say hi it seems.

He needs to put down some wolves if they wander over the state line !!!!!

Elk hunting, we had a marten get in the meat cache. It was fun watching him.

He never traps marten in the snowys because season doesn't
open till Dec 1st In There for marten. He leaves Wyoming by Nov 1st..usually unless he helps Cody with the cattle
For a day or two In. Return for staying at the bunkhouse while he traps.


There's no snow where he is..so no tracks.

His ultimate goal is to catch a wolf. He saw sign a few years ago.

He's had some bear issues this year on some of the sets.

Wytex..i bet you were surprised to see a marten come in like that to your tent.

I love to watch the trapper in AK who flies in to trap with his plane.
Over the years there have been many posts about Jerry from Cathryn. He could be on a TV show as well as the guy from AK. He's pure adventure, a fine interesting man from the sounds of it, definitely one of a kind. I envy him. I wonder how many of us old farts think, I wish I could have done that!

Calling for 8 inches of snow here overnight.
Following your thread got me itchin to go set Marten traps,but season doesnt open until the 25th here.
I'll set some in November near roads,and if it looks good will set up the bush lines with the snowmachine later.
Making up a few boxes to replace the usual number that need replaced.

He said it's the first time he's trapped that area and there hasn't been by now.

They're calling for possibly some precipitation and colder Saturday and sunday..he could honestly use the cold Temps and about 3 inches of snow..to get them.noving and hunting hard.

I didn't know there are spotted skunks at that elevation in Wyoming. Crazy thing is that I have also caught them in marten traps in Washington at relatively high elevation.

Jerry doing a little fishing with his nephew and his kids last Saturday ..in a private pond.. while they were checking traps.

The kids..2 girls and 1 boy love it when uncle Jerry comes to trap.

Last year he had a marten..that they were with him when he caught them.. tanned for each of them.








Memories are what life's all about..ya gotta live and do while you can..so when youre no longer able to do those things anymore..your good memories will see you through.

One thing about Jerrys doing what he's doing..some.of yall may think he's not too bright but I can tell you one thing about him..he will NEVER look back on his life and say.." oh how I WISH I had done that"

Yeah , the Dec 1 opening is a bit late for mountain trapping in the Snowies.
Spouse and I trap mainly bobcats and coyotes on a private ranch Northeast of town here. We do get a badger every once in a while and coons. We have to watch out for mt lions also as we can not trap them and have them around.

Weather will change coming up. Sounds like more snow over on west side of Snowies and cold for us with scattered snow and rain. Next week will be cold for sure they are saying.

We've had marten experiences almost every year archery elk hunting, they are quite curious it seems and not very afraid.

Best of luck to his trapping and hope he gets that wolf ! Be even better if it had a collar from Colorado !!!!

Thanks for posting all the pictures and sharing his adventure. I am pretty sure I met Jerry at Olsons back in the day. I was looking forward to talking to him and John this year but of all freaking things I came down with COVID and could not attend.

Its amazing how those marten have darker faces than the pale grey faces of others back east, and north in the western hemisphere.

Such rich warm brown/yellow bodies , and the necklace bling !

A very pretty spotted skunk too.

It will be great to see pics of them all , back at the home front, lined up and skinned out.
