I can see from the pictures that spending the day on horseback rounding up cattle is certainly work But it is the kind of work that leaves you with the satisfaction that an honest day's work for an honest days pay is still a good day Thank for sharing the view. Yeah I really enjoy working out in nature and working with animals

Grew up working the farm and had a hand in it my whole life until a few years ago. Couldn't have imagine having a 9 to 5 rat race in a building job. Ride a tractor here. Working with and on your horse is something all together different than I've done. I know how long days on the farm can be. My hats off to you Yes sir. Your way of life is slowly fading in some areas. The hard work and dedication you give to your job is commendable. Nice pictures

Not sure why so many give up herfords, maybe he eye cancers they seem to get, but they aren’t near as cantankerous as most black cowsI’ve been around. Some of those blacks won’t let a stranger on the place, get crazy and run through fences! I ask the landowner about his cows when asking permission, as I don’t want to get in one of those situations and be asked to leave. The guy I headquartered on in SD had red angus, and they were great to trap around. Hard to believe color can make so much difference! I've heard that flies don't bother the black cows as bad.........and there's the big deal about Angus beef now, which doesn't even have to be angus breed to identify as angus beef.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Yeah I really enjoy working out in nature and working with animals When you ride most all day, and string several days together doing the same, I have appreciated a saddle that the fenders swing and don't cause the knees to hurt , after some hours. My form fitter Hamley had well swinging fenders, but still could have used even better give . Every so often I would just ride without stirrups, stretching out my legs and giving my knees a break. Then I discovered Aussie saddles, and I've been hooked ever since. Mine, being a cross-breed of western and the original Aussie Poly, the best of both worlds, and I now can ride all day with no knee pain. There's lots of options, even including horns if someone wants that feature. I didn't , where I ride the chance of hanging up with it on a tree bough, or poking me when I'm jumping, are all things that happen, and I don't rope. I always think of gear, and what an accomplishment when you finally find the perfect saddle that has everything you need to be comfortable and serve its purpose well. Very pretty colours on the doggie, BTW.

Thanks for posting Yes. You are lucky to be living a life that is fading away. Too many "drug store" cowboys these days that don't know what they missed out on. When I was first married, on working days, I would get up at 3 in the morning and milk the cow while wife cooked me a breakfast of steak and eggs, then ride 7 miles to a line shack and drink a cup of coffee with the hand that lived there and then we would ride another 8 miles to a foreman's house, more coffee and then hit the pasture at daylight. After working all day it was still that 15 miles back to my house. It could be a little tuff on the butt at times. Here's an old photo taken on the Sherman Ranch in Kansas in 1902 ( before my time )
Sit on your horse on top of a ridge, look out across the country and tell me there is no God.

Cedar That's a good story and good pic. The cowboys and horses were much tougher in those days. Some people complain about a 30 minute round trip to work in a car. On a horse would be another thing altogether.
NV That's a cool pic and what I'd call a real cowboy outfit.
Lefty People talk about paid time off and health care benefits as there side benefits of their job but ranch work definitely has its perks too and " checkin the water holes" is definitely one of them!

Oh brother. Don't you have some blues to catch or a copper mouthed rattle cobra to stomp?
