We started cutting my beans last night. This is only my second crop after buying my grandparents farm. I’ve got a good friend I help with harvest and spring planting/ground prep and exchange he plants and combines my crop until I get my own stuff

It will be nice to have the money in hand and not have to worry about the crop sitting in the field

It's nice that you've got someone where yall can help each other out.

I'm sure it adds to it that you're farming family land.

I'm sure your grandma and grandad are proud that you're continuing your families tradition of farming.

Hopefully ..if you have kids..one or your kids or grandkids will pick up the torch after you.

Farming is a hard job..even with today's technology and if you're a smaller farmer it's even harder.

The cost of machinery is crazy.

Good luck with your crop..and I think it's great you're carrying on your farming heritage.

Congrats on finding a way to continue to keep your grand parents farm in the family . I come from a farming back round Two or 3 generations ago nearly al my ancestors where farmers . It is hard work and it does not make many people rich .At least not while farming Maybe after the farming is finally given up and everything is sold and the debts are all paid there is some money left Farmers and trappers are some of the most optimistic people on earth They put a lot of money into their equipment plan lots of time and effort to how they are going to manage their farm \trapping season They have no control over the weather or the price they will get paid for the their harvest . They often are not making much money Instead they are just paying the bills as they handle the money from one person to another Often the love of the land is what keeps them doing what they enjoy doing .Best of luck with your way of living and I wish you the best on getting some of your own equipment

Run he has deffinitely upgraded to some better equipment the last couple years. Bought that combine part way through the 2020 harvest, he had a new Holland combine before that that was wore out and we literally worked on it dailly, that front wheel assist tractor was purchased this spring sure makes things nice

Cathryn it’s deffinitely a good deal we have worked out, helps us both out! Grandpa passed away in 16’ and didn’t live to see me buy the farm but he would be proud to know we bought it. Him and I had talked about it since I was probably 12 years old. Grandma passed away this spring but she was deffinitely proud that we are continuing to farm the ground that her and my grandpa worked so hard for. Here’s a couple pics of my kids helping me run the grain cart for my buddy over the weekend

W side it’s deffinitely a struggle to be a little guy starting from scratch farming. My wife stays home with the kids and I work at a feed mill and then do what I can after hours and weekends to make it all work. And your right the ultimate goal is really to make enough money to keep farming the next year

You keep at it. You're going to be successful at farming. You have the drive.

And just cause your grandad passed doesn't mean he isn't proud of you.

His pride is in the sunshine and the rain that's making you successful at farming

Great pictures of the kids I lived on a farm until I was about 13 And spent many hours during the past 50 plus years helping family with whatever needed to be done In exchange I had places to hunt and trap and just roam in the country .There is no better place to raise children than in a farming community. You learn life long values and the importance of doing the right thing just because it is he right thing to do .

Cathryn that made me smile, thank you for the kind words.

W side I agree that’s why the wife and I wanted to raise our children on a farm. We also raise sheep, have some pigs and will probably get chickens in the spring as they get older there responsibilities will grow. Fun times for sure

Almost done with harvest here, hopefully by Sunday. With the exceptional drought, crops have been tremendous. Corn yields have ranged from 275 to 291 and beans from 83 to 87. All irrigated.

LDW those are some darn good yields, a lot better than what we grow around here. We are over half done on beans still have most of the corn to go

Cathryn those are good looking sheep we just don’t want to mess with the wool.
