We recently got our bill for our homeowner's insurance premium for the year. It went up $350. from last year. It seems like Allstate raises their premiums every year. I checked with USAA, and I can get the same coverage for $1200 less.
Has anyone used USAA for their insurance? If so, what's your opinion of them?

My Godfather had for many years had and was very happy. The only thing he made note of was there were a lot of “fine print” things you needed to be aware of. He passed this last spring so I’m not sure if anything is changed.

I have it. No complaints. Even done loans through them. And, yes, I have filed a claim with them. No problems.

Paul you might want to check with Farm Bureau. Hilt Winders has been able to give me the same coverage everyone else for a lot less. Plus its nice to have a local rep to call and talk to if any issues arise.

I have had USAA since 1994 when they opened up to enlisted Marines on Camp Lejeune. I have had two mortgages and a few car loans through them. All of my vehicle insurance is through them. They where my insurance provider on two different houses in North Carolina but not now in West Virginia. I have filed one claim on homeowners for a roof and two non fault auto accidents. They are great to work with. I have found dealing with them is pretty easy and straight forward. The only reason I dont have them for my current house insurance is the same State Farm rep has insured this house when my Father in law bought in 1972 and the agent gave us a deal no one could touch. I have been with them almost 30 years and have nothing bad to say...

Paul, around here USAA is huge and if I do hear a complaint it is NEVER about how they handle a claim, but instead that they are higher than others on a premium. If you like the price I have no reason to doubt you will love USAA.

Has anyone used USAA for their insurance? If so, what's your opinion of them? Good. You will likely save even more after youve been with them for so long. Like all insurance though, rates will raise for all depending on total losses they have for the year whether you caused it or not. I would only go with Geico or USAA at this point though.

I will say that in August of 2009 we were rearended by a gentleman in Fayete Nam on the hottest day of the year while returning from a trip to Babies R Us(it is very easy to remember as my wife was 38 weeks pregnant with my son and it took the police dept over 2 hours to respond to take a police report that Sunday). The gentleman had USAA insurance. We called and asked to go to get checked out since she was 38 weeks and the seatbelt grabber her under and around the belly as it should. Wayne Memorial Hospital told us that we would most likely have to hire a lawyer as USAA was the worst insurance company as far as paying them. They told us that every claim gets denied the first time and most of the time the patient gets billed by the hospital. They did pay the hospital with nothing more than a simple statement from us and the gentleman that hit us. We had an estimate for the bumper to be replaced on her honda element for something ridiculously cheap like $295.00. They sent out an adjuster and he had a check overnighted for 595.00 and the following week we received a check for $5000.00 to release them from liability. I'm certain this was done because my wife was pregnant. I tried to give them the check back(as I'm not out to defraud insurance) but they refused and claimed the only way to close the claim was to deposit the check into our account. That is my one and only experience with USAA. In the end it was satisfactory. I was given a heck of a lot more than I asked for(remember all I wanted was for the bumper to be replaced). My brother in law has told me that if you are/were in the Armed Forces you will be taken care of by USAA but if your not good luck.

John C I am glad everyone is ok and you were pleased. Most ppl think the premium is the only difference between 2 companies, but as an adjuster I believe the product you buy can only be quantified after a loss. If a company doesn't handle it's claims well, I couldn't care less if thier policy is cheaper. To me it is worthless.
Oh, and watch out for lawyers LOL
