Chancey, for Texas to be such a great state for some reason every single person there wants to move to Oklahoma….
Hey Wesley,
Sorry just getting back. You are correct. Texas used to be a great place for rural ag folks, farmers, and ranchers. It sill is for the time being for many folk over 100 miles from Austin, Houston, and DFW. For generations, we all had great pride in this state, and the city folk stayed in the city. As a child, we grew up saying the pledge of allegiance to the American flag, and then would turn and say the pledge of allegiance to the Texas flag. Just about every school child back in the day for field trips went to visit "Washington on the Brazos" in Independence, Texas where the Texas Declaration was signed.
These same virtues still hold very close to all Texas born and bred here, but we have a problem; and that problem is growth, jobs, and leadership. IMO, Texas has been sold out by the governors and senators that say what we want to hear; but do nothing to ever circumvent the problems facing rural Texans and agriculture.
Nowadays, all we hear is jobs, jobs, jobs, booming economy, growth is good. Yet, no one in leadership dares mention our dire water problems, loss of farmland, etc. Its just come on, we have no state income tax, come, come, come. Now, our rural ag land within 100 miles of the cities is being developed. What is not developed is becoming solar farms. Land prices have skyrocketed and property taxes as well.
Oklahoma may have an income tax, but nowadays its probably way less than what we have to pay in property taxes. I despise property taxes, I think they are both evil and immoral.
Now, Texas is being whored out by its leadership that say one thing on the one hand during election cycles, and then never follow up. Yeah, we have jobs, jobs, jobs, but it aint for the common man. Mostly tech jobs around the cities, and then those people don't want to live in the raggedy cities and move to the farmland and screw everything up. Where they can't build houses, they are building solar and wind farms. Furthermore, immigration is changing the very foundation of our small communities and schools. It was Germans, Scotts, Irish, Polish, and Tennesseans that made Texas great. Those traditions and foundations have been destroyed due to lack of leadership and money. Rant over, sorry, but it ticks me off.
