Had a request from a subscriber to do a video about armadillos moving north. Had a little fun with some parts of it, but still tried to keep it short and to the point.

Hope you enjoy it!

Anthony

I saw one (roadkill) on I-80 between Kearney and Grand Island on my way to Iowa in Sept. Didn't think they got this far north.

Short on time so I'll have to watch your video later. I have seen them on our farm in Marion County in Northeast Missouri several years ago.

Yep. 1980 or so I was rabbit hunting along a RR track south of Aurora Missouri and saw my first armadillo. Dead along the tracks. My first thought was that it had somehow hitched a ride north on the freight cars and had fallen off. But no, just they're natural migration.
I've read that at about the time of the Alamo (1836) armadillos were in central Texas. I'd say they're here to stay until another ice age runs them south again.
I can't tell they hurt anything, just root around in the leaves and eat grubs.

Osagian - there were instances where armadillos were found in railway cattle cars so transport by train is possible. They have made quick progress across KY and just a few years ago you didn't see them east of I-65 but it is quite common to see them now.

Back in the 80's dead armadillos were found on the highway just outside of Baudette, MN a couple of times. Don't ask me how I know, but somewhere I have the newspaper to prove it.

I wonder how they will do in northern NY’s winter. 200”-300” of annual snowfall and several weeks of sub zero temps ?

I swore I saw one bow hunting off Hyw 12 by lake Geneva in 1990 and it was headed south

I live 20 miles west of Kearney, NE. Have not seen one here but they are 40 miles south of here. But what is 40 miles to wildlife?
Have seen plenty of roadkill in northern Kansas.
