Anyone have experience with the Duke 650 on grey fox? Mixed line and wondering on incidental greys. Chains have been changed with 3 swiveling points and 16" of chain.

The weight of the trap Is going to be tough on those fragile grey's.

Yup, I can speak with experience that the MB650C isn't a red fox trap. Never set a duke 650 but I would expect similar results. And greys are half again more fragile than a red.

I'll use a #2 as an all purpose canine trap but if I'm targeting just greys I won't use anything bigger than a #1.75.

Greys also roll and flip around more than a bouncy red. Heavy trap plus leverage not good.

Duke650 is way too much on greys. Even 2 coiled it beats em up pretty bad. But that said, the duke650 is an awesome coyote trap.

I have not used the Duke 650, the MB 650 is **WAAAAY** to large for the fragile grey fox. I would be looking at a #1.75 size, 2 coil trap for the lil grey. On a multi-species line with coyotes, a #2 size trap; no need to be 4 coiled, 2 coil traps have held a lot of coyotes over the years.

My experience here with greys is I wouldn't use anything over a 11/2 coil.I did not like what I saw with the No.2 coil.I had a guy tell me if he was in just coon and grey fox country he'd use No.1 coils.

I live marketed lots of greys and all I used were duke 1.75s with Inside and outside lams. It wasn't the perfect set up but It was better then any other set up I tried.

Inside and outside laminations would make a world of difference I would think,if guys would modify their 1.75 like that

The MB 450 is a fine fox trap save for a regular cut foot by the bottom of the jaws. Usually a small nick but often all the way through the leather.

That's where inside lams make a difference. But It's all about the fight In those greys.

The 1.5 coils hold red fox just fine. No reason they wouldn't be all you need for greys. Easy to laminate and add swivels so they are easy on the fox. Contrary to what you often hear on the internet, they hold the occasional coyote just fine too if one finds your grey fox set.

Duke 1.5 is a good cheap all species trap where theft or damage may be a concern. I've caught and held more than a few coyotes in them.

I dont have any duke 650's. But my mb 650's is hard on grey's and coons. I know 2 guys that run Duke 1 3/4 offset 4 coil. Laminated jaws and base plate. That trap works on fox or coyotes for them. I used a #2 offset set 4 coil fully modified trap. Is what i use mostly. If i was just after fox. I would go to a smaller trap. Like a victor pro 1 3/4 offset or a duke 1 3/4 offset. Growing up all i had was Northwood 1.5 coil spring. I would replace the 1.5 springs. I would put #2 springs on 1.5 traps. That little trap worked good on Grey's. Not the idea cat trap. But i made it work. Because thats what i had.
