I saw a guy wearing them yesterday and got thinking that might be rather nice as my legs have several scraps through my jeans that I am noticing today.
I recall a few people talking about them here
they have the
high and dry , look to be waterproof non insulated with the not as thick outer shell a 420 denier material
the brush busters look to be the 1000 denier material uninsulated
the dog days look to be the 1000 denier but with a vent material on the back
the Rugged wear 5 star appear to be the 1000 material with waterproof liner
most of our bird hunting is not particularly cold or wet and the thorns are mostly raspberries and multiflora rose a few locust yesterday jeans and a sweatshirt was good and I get moving and typically have a sweat going
I am debating between the dog days , brush buster and the high and dry
I can see where the high and dry would be nice for wet grass in the dew of the morning or on rainy days , we are sort of fair or at least dry weather bird chasers
is the 420 denier adequate for wild raspberries and multiflora ? and how do they breath?
I am thinking the dog days because I already get hot and I can always put on thermals under my pants already do if it is cold and do just fine for staying warm are you sacrificing coverage to not over heat
it isn't typically any warmer than about 50-60 like it was yesterday when I am hunting
or is the brush buster the happy medium good coverage with out being too hot ?
what is the sweet spot of breaths , protects and doesn't get too heavy?
or is there some other product worth looking at

I have used the Hi & Dry chaps, Stonecreek hounds chaps, and have a set of Dan's "froggers" for trapping. All work well. I gave the H&Ds to my son. I liked the StoneCreeks better for bird hunting...I stay dryer in them. I think the Stone Creeks are the equiv to the 5star from Dan's so likely not a far comparison. I wear my "froggers" from setting for beavers to digging dirtholes. If I were to order again, I would go 2" shorter and bigger than they recommend. I went the recommended 2" shorter than inseam and they still drag. Bigger thigh cools better IMO. A friend of mine missed the part were they said add 2" to thigh measurement. He looks funny in his....

I was measuring that with a tape measure and thinking I buy all my pants in 32 inseam but 28 seems to be what the inseam of my pants measure to the ball of my ankle while wearing. what size do you have and what are your normal pants size ?

I wear a 36x34 jean and got LG32" chaps. Wish I had ordered off my 32" suit pant size...30".

Dan's is good stuff, not made for sneakin up on anything though. I have 3 items made by Dan's and will say follow there measuring instructions, my inseam is 29" I order my Dan's 27" or 28" depending if I'm ordering pants or bibs.

The Stone Creek ones are much better than the Dan's. My Dan's didn't last a year. Your the first person I have heard that wasn't satisfied with Dans. I have hipboots from them and have used and abused them for around 6 years and they keep going. I went there and they measured me and were great to deal with. I'm sure if you called them they would make it right with you. I highly recommend Dans.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Are Dan's waterproof? Can you use them as hip boots?

Are Dan's waterproof? Can you use them as hip boots? Yes, however the old wicks waders, which these are copies of, always cautioned that their froglegs were creek crossers not hip boots. But that said I've chased hounds through enough south Alabama beaver swamps and up and down the Alabama River in them enough to say they are more than waterproof enough for what this beaver trapper needs.

I have a set of the high and dry. They are definitely nice when walking through nasty stuff. I’ve gotten wet through them when kneeling setting traps over and over again, but they’ll keep you dry walking through wet grass and such. Being waterproof, they do get warm. Sometimes I’ll end up unzipping the top some to let some warm air out.

Dan's might be modeled after Wick's but they're no where near copies of them. Stone Creek is a copy of wicks.

Several years later I found Stone Creek and will never look back. Exact replicas of Wick and just as tough.

We are rough on equipment down here , Wick set the standard , Dan`s has tried but failed by my standard`s to replicate , Stone Creek has the best on the market at this time in my opinion . We have used and abused Stone Creek product`s for the last 8 or so year`s Darn good stuff . We cull Hound`s and equipment HARD in my neck of the wood`s . It`s not just a Hobby , it`s our way of life .
