All my life I've been intrigued by glaciers. It amazes me that most of them are flowing, sometimes as much as 12 feet per day. Most, however, are moving only a few inches per day. If you've ever camped on or beside one, it can be noisy listening to the movement and the grinding all night.

Beautiful photos, Gulo. Thanks for sharing.

I'm surprised they haven't made a movie called something like The Man Eating Glacier. People camp beside a glacier and it picks up speed during the night and eats them alive. I know, sounds silly but remember The Blob? lol

Lovely moving entities. I like them too. Rivers in slow motion. I saw the Flower Glacier when I was in Haines, along with Glacier Bay .

The Glaciers in the Himmies have always intrigued me. Imagine seeing those up close.

The most beautiful blue I've ever seen, and is my favourite colour blue hands down, is that neon translucent blue deep in glacial ice. There is no blue like that in all the universe.

Thank you for the share, Jack.

Last monday I was flying from Anchorage to McGrath. Crossing the Alaska range it was intersting to check out all the glaciers. It is easy to see 4 or 5 simultaneously......as you know.
One of my quirks is to follow the medial and lateral moraines of one glacier and see what happens to them as they intersect another glacier. Usually, they become the lateral moraine of the "impactee".

It's amazing how much material they move.

I was JUST going to comment also on the moraines grin

I've always loved seeing them. They can even be varied shades of brown. What a rhythm they make winding along the turns . Like tree rings, it's fun counting several of them to see how many frozen rivers converge into one mighty flow.

Always remind me of chocolate fudge swirl ice cream .

Never been near a glacier. Now I want to camp near one just to hear and feel it. Thanks for sharing.

Fine, fine photos, Oreamnos. I always enjoyed flying annual goat surveys throughout Baranof. There are some real fine glaciers on that island, for sure.

330-trapper consider that all around you is glacial end moraine from the last ice age only ending 10k bp they did move.

All I got is I live in the bottom of a glacial lake bed with 600 feet of lake sediment below me
