Trail sets rock, they're my most productive way of catching coons. Here's a public land trail visible from space, on Google Earth.

with a trail like that i would have AT LEAST half dozen 220s in,absolutely love trapping coon trails,but ya usually theyre done around here by the time they prime up,cause the corn is gone

Yes I have had good success getting big male cons on trail sets .I also notice that when the coon mating season starts in Jan .I catch more large male coon on even the very cold nights So it seems to me the big males go out looking for a partner to mate with and will probably be covering the major coon trails Females and small males might be out but remain near their denning area . Over a 25 plus year time frame I kept track of the ratio of male to female coons I caught. I would start trapping about mid Nov and trap to about the 3rd week in Feb .I averaged during all those years catching 65% males verses females Several of those years it was closer to 75 % to 25% So two out of every three where male .I guess it could be there are just more males born into the population .But I think it comes from the fact that the males are just more active and get away from their denning area more often And to do that they are using those main trails in their territory .

I have caught coons in snares over trails just like this. Mowed lawn. Just hang the snare with my #9 pigtailed support wire centered over the trail. NO guiding. They walk right through them. They'll make a new trail right around a 220 in much taller grass.

Same with 160s. I found the more you tried to camo the trap the more avoidance you had.
I like the 160s In trails better then snares because you catch lots of skunks In those trails. And they are worth 3 times what a coon Is bringing.

Just started trying it this year and only have 3 220s, will probably set a couple out when I set on Tuesday for rats. I know this is a little off topic but has anyone had luck with 220s in boxes? I built a few to try for this year.

I’ve had some very limited success with boxes, not enough to make me keep doing it and haul them boxes around everywhere

used to do really good with bucket and boxes, for coon, I would pre bait them

Used a lot of box’s baited with 220s back in MN. I would put them along creek or lake banks. Minimum of 4 per set. Coon,skunk, occasional mink etc…
