I run a few deer cameras each archery season. For the last week I have been getting coyote pics in the same locations almost every night. Multiple dogs passing by or even sniffing around. I’ll be up for the next two weeks to my place and plan on setting traps for them. I’m only on my second season of trapping so I don’t have much experience. Last year I caught a red and and a few raccoons.

My property and the adjacent farm areas have healthy populations of coyotes. They have beat my small game population to zilch, I don’t even see groundhogs anymore.

Thoughts on how I should set up?

I’d put three sets in front of that camera. A baited dirt hole, a lured flat set, and a scent post set with just urine.

Thanks. I’ll do just that.

I have coyotes in every camera so I’ll try at each one. Also got my hands on fresh sheared sheep wool. Was thinking of using deer liver for bait. I saved liver from a doe I killed a couple weeks ago. I also have commercial bait from Cavens. And lure also.

Location has been drilled over and over, sounds like in front of your game cam is a good spot to start.

I have caught the most coyotes on my plac in a similar spot, game cam catches coyotes there more often than all the other places combined. Cameras were all set to watch deer movement, might be different if I went to setting them targeting coyotes

Yep I’d set in front of each camera that’s seeing coyotes. If there’s no backing right where your seeing them I wouldn’t move anything it’s really to late to do that. I’d put in a compass or pyramid set right on the exact spot your seeing them under foot. Blend it in so you see absolutely nothing. I’ve had really good success doing this. Nothing for them to shy away from.

This is one of a dozen coyote pictures at this location. The red spot is a set and there’s two more to the right about 20-30 yards apart on the same path.

I think they come through here hunting mice. Or chasing deer.

The coyote is telling you exactly where to place a trap in the picture > flat set on location.

Good luck!

I thought about that but I get so much deer traffic through here I doubt I’d have a chance for it to stay unfired for an hour.

Exactly this ^^^^^^^^ once I learned to place my traps under foot and make them trip over them my catch rate went through the roof. Much easier to catch a K9 if you don’t have to pull him even if it’s just a few feet.
