I remember reading an interesting statistic on CNBC a month or so ago about the top 1% net worth individuals in America.

Over 99% don't gamble.

So there you go.

It may be fun for some, but it's desperation for far too many.
My $20 goes for trap wax, trap dye, trap P and the other essentials in life.

Blessings,
Mark

I think they should do away with these large jackpots and make a 2 million dollar cap. 1 million for taxes, 1 million for the winner. Do multiple drawings when there are no winners the first time.
Instead on one person having half a billion dollars we could have 500 millionaires. The 500 millionaires will have that money circulating back into the economy a lot faster than the one who puts most of half a billion into a bank or whatever.

Quote
“The Lottery, with its weekly pay-out of enormous prizes, was the one public event to which the proles paid serious attention. It was probable that there were some millions of proles for whom the Lottery was the principal if not the only reason for remaining alive. It was their delight, their folly, their anodyne, their intellectual stimulant. Where the Lottery was concerned, even people who could barely read and write seemed capable of intricate calculations and staggering feats of memory. There was a whole tribe of men who made their living simply by selling systems, forecasts, and lucky amulets. Winston had nothing to do with the Lottery, which was managed by the Ministry of Plenty, but he was aware (indeed everyone in the party was aware) that the prizes were largely imaginary. Only small sums were actually paid out, the winners of the big prizes being nonexistent persons.”

George Orwell, 1984

The novel 1884 was published in 1949. Long before any government lotteries existed. Everybody ought to read Atlas Shrugged and 1984.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
