Any advice for what to use in fisher boxes when the weather is warm?
Have always heard to use chunks of fresh, bloody meat for fisher - but what do you use when daytime temps are 50+ and the meat rots?
Anything other than wait for colder weather or change the bait every day or two?
Thanks for any help!

A well prepared bait would work just fine in warmer temps. A mild beaver meat bait is a good choice for fisher. Fresh meats can begin to spoil or sour after several days. It really depends on the temps as to how fast this will happen.

If you are on location and have enough areas set up you may get action with your fresh meat to where it won't be a problem.

I don't know what part of the state you trap in but a far Northwoods trapper friend said he uses day old bakery. Apparently fisher raid bear bait stations and have developed a sweet tooth.

See a lot of fisher at bear baits with bakery goods. You might be onto something there!

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Take a handful of white paper towels ball them up in the back of the box with your lure of choice on it, a commercial canine bait or even some strawberry jelly early season. The paper towels give them something visual to look at like there might be something worth sticking their head in there for.

I had to move my bear snare because they kept setting it off last year. All I used was bread, sweets vegetable oil mixed with anise oil and some castor

Beef suet does not spoil quickly, it does not have a strong odor but you will be surprised at what craves it. In your box or dirt set, what ever set, use a copious amount of a sweet product such as strawberry, honey, fake maple syrup etc. or raspberry jam or a sweet pie filling.
Pastries, etc.
If you are using skunk as a call, keep it light and up in the air away from the set.

JP, real good to see you posting.
Not sure how many of you folks recognize JP Wilson. A very good all around trapper, an excellent lure maker, and a really nice guy.

I second beef suet. My first year trapping seriously I used beef suet on my marten/fisher line because I didn't catch any beaver.

Beef Butcher scraps is great marten bait.
One buddy of mine with a line up North uses only beef butcher scraps for bait and always catches a pile of marten.
