I wish I would have had more time in life to developed my drawing skills. For someone to be as good as Sharon is first they as born with artistic talent and the years of developing it. Mine went to taxidermy I guess that was where my talent went.
No matter where you go there you are.

I'm interested in the "snarl" you added that isn't on the face in the picture. Did you do that from memory/experience, or from a different pic. The snarl is what they look like when their foot is in a trap and you're walking up to them! I think I've seen and studied every video on them available. And skulls . I see often they will just show the bottom row of teeth just a bit as they exert themselves . or communicate. I like the hint of those lower canines , leaving the rest to the imagination. JR told me, that when they're trapped, they go frantic as he approaches , and he doesn't feel taking time for many photos is a good idea. He said they really become a whirlwind of energy. So he gets photos as fast as possible. Plus, I just like to see the white contrast of teeth against a dark face. Travis, you ARE an artist. You achieved your goal , even better than on paper, or any other medium. In taxi work, you take part of that animal and make them alive again. Art is a multifaceted subject that everyone can enjoy. N50, you're trouble ! My animals don't have fleas, ticks, lice, scorpions, or anything bad crawly nasty. They all wear flea collars .

The snarl is what they look like when their foot is in a trap and you're walking up to them! Glad you mentioned that Mike. I thought about it also. They seem to sort of huff and snort deep in their chest when approached. And that slight upward curve below the incisors is perfect. They can be a whirling dervish in a trap. I recall one on his back going in circles. I thought I was on a street corner in NYC watching someone break dancing ! Coolest critter on the planet IMO Great job Sharon !

30/06, it took time ! First, gathering the photos from JR’s collection of mountains , deciding what ones I liked , and where to blend different ranges also took some mental time. The Wolverine was easy, as JR had sent that to me a long time ago. Finding several shots of the kind of northern lights I wanted , took some hunting time. Transferring the outline proof sketch onto the paper, then colouring it all in. I think the time it takes mentally to figure out what to do , and the research is often not considered when calculating the amount of time that goes into a job. Before pencil is put to paper.
During this time, a lightning fire in the national forest was close to my cabin and I was meeting with smokejumper teams, waving at choppers hauling water over my roof from the big river next to me , and meeting fire fighters about every day. Those interruptions cost me some days as I worked on this job. A new experience for my focus in multitasking. They soon had it at a good controlled burn, which is what the whole mountain quadrant next to me needed anyway. Great new friends I met , they took good care of me and the few other houses on this road.
So, amidst all that fun, I think I had around 14 “work hour days” into this. From mental conception, gathering research references, to finished. I feel I know JR ‘s mountain ranges, a few of them, that much better after spending time on their dimensions and lighting.
Canvasback, here is my estimation of time, a general guess due to the fact that I had a great camp of hotshots living right next to me in the woods for over a month. And , loving all things that fly, stood transfixed at the Chinook , a smaller workhorse chopper, and large planes flying so low over my place I could see them looking down at me, waving to them. It was a real change of horses in mid stream to constantly go, from being quite active, meeting with the firefighters, the Natl Forest directors, meetings, having fire trucks and groups of guys in my driveway, turning on the big sprinklers every day, they set up all over my place, talking to some of them at length, making friends of all. It was inspiring to speak of things they hold dear along with me, love of guns, country, and no tolerance of "woke" effeminate freaks. Then, after all that action, to sitting quietly and focusing on detail in this job. Almost impossible to be so revved up, then take some deep breaths and slow down to concentrate on micro things. All the while, feeling the air displacement from chopper blades as they carried those huge water bowls overhead. Sir Ken, thank you much, your knowledge of these unique beings is second to no one. Someday, I'd love to hear them sound off the way you described. Many thanks to all . Without you trappers, there would be no inspiration to any art that accurately depicts animal behavior well.

Then from the finished mount I sent Sharon a picture to draw for the flyer for the NTA Southeastern this year. As aways she knocked it out of the park.
