I enjoyed following Cathryns thread on Jerry's WY trapping. I always enjoy reading about others state hopping experiences. I've trapped in several states from IA where I started on to KS, AZ then a road trip to CO . Then on to WY where I've been fore th past 26 years. 7 or 8 of those years I trapped in Mississippi for the live market. One year I trapped Oklahoma for the live catch market. And ones I crossed the MO line wile trapping in IA. I was talking to an old farmer that stopped to talk as I was coming out of the ditch. When I told him I was trapping he asked me if the out of stare license was expensive. I had Kansas plates at the time so that didn't surprise me that he asked me that. Then he saw some snairs in the bed of the truck a he asked what I used them for.i told him coon and fox mostly. He then said I didn't know you could use those in Missouri. I said in surprise, how far am I from the IA border lol. More on that later.

Trapped in WV while in college. Had a lot of fun, and caught a variety of critters. Muskrat, coyote, coon, red fox, gray fox, beaver, bobcat, fisher, mink, and even a weasel.
Mom lived in eastern NC for a few years. Trapped otter, nutria, and muskrat there.
Went to sw Texas for a job out of college. Trapped coyote and bobcat down there. I’d like to go back and trap in that sendero/brush country again.
Born and raised in MD. Trap mostly red fox here. But also muskrat, otter, coon, gray fox.
Would love to travel and trap more states!

People's Republic of Minnesota won't allow NR trappers so we can't trap out of state but hope to change that soon!

People's Republic of Minnesota won't allow NR trappers so we can't trap out of state but hope to change that soon! That would be good. I've met alot of visiting out of state trappers over the years. The experience has always been positive. Most understanding there in some one else's territory. While trapping public ground. You can usually come to some sort of dialog-- agreement on working the same area. Earn trust and you may have made a friend you can trust to watch your back or help you if you get in a pickle out on the line. I hope MN can change this for both your residents and out of staters to enjoy the freedom of trapping other states. Rich

Growing up on an Ozarks farm I could only dream of someday trapping out West. When my youngest sister moved to Southwest Montana a lot of those dreams became possible. A lot of the locals would look at me like I was crazy to be making trips to Wyoming or Montana just to trap. I know elk and mule deer hunting get all the press and I love fly fishing those magnificent streams, but compared to trapping there it's no contest. Hopefully I'll get to trap beaver in the Sweetwater drainage again someday and see more of those heavy furred foxes and coyote jingling chains. I think Hal Sullivan got my trapping wanderlust going back in the days he would put together an annual synopsis of all the state's trapping regulations for the trapper magazine. Thanks Hal! Dale I'll be hunting elk in a couple of weeks just west of the sweet watter, i'll think of you when I see those beaver colonies. I Hobe you can make that happen to.

Rich The closest I have come was trapping in other parts of MN and find that most people are good and kind hearted. Once they find out your living in a camper many will offer you a warm meal and even a shower (usually the shower first). I've meet very few other trappers the past few years but most are young and just getting into trapping. I usually welcome the company and happy to answer hundreds of questions they usually have.

I camped with a friend near Durango a little town called Mancaus I belive it was . I caught my first to marten there. The hunters were thick as fleas.

What part of Iowa do you hail from? I was born and raised just South of Holiday Lake near Brooklyn.

lol. That would be tough. Tried trapping rats at Ventura in ?1996? During Spring season with my cousin/partner in crime. As I was the only one of us with chesties, I got volunteered to be the one hopping out of the canoe to check as they was still a good bit of ice in the marsh. My cousin thought it was funny to slap the water with the paddle as I only had a couple of inches to spare and the wake from the paddle slap was just enough to get a trickle over the top. When I tossed a live ‘rat into the canoe, the games stopped

John John, that's quite a variety of critter. Fisher is one I've never trapped, maybe some day. Something to dream about anyway.
