Sister told me Colorado is about to make psilocybin mushrooms legal. I guess folks there want to watch the flying monkeys without renting the wizard of Oz?

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Danny, I have absolutely no problem with drugs of any kind being legal. The problem I have is when folks do dumb things that affect others they should be punished for doing so. If Johnny wants to kill his last few brain cells he should have that right. If Johnny dose something to harm or take from others in the process he should be punished accordingly for his actions. If our judicial system keeps slapping folks on the wrist I think legal drugs will just create more problems as a druggy don't seem to have much of a moral compass and even less when there are no consequences.

I am there with you Andrew. Just have a hard time wrapping my mind around trap and gun bans but a powerful hallucinogen is ok.

Cause people wasted out of their minds aren't a threat to the powers that be.

What have we been saying all these years about Mary Jane being a gateway drug?

In a few years all the drugs will be legal.

The problems come when Jonny burn his brain out and now can't function and has to be taken care of. Or when they are all consumed and can only think about getting more drugs and will do anything to get them.

But we have that now. But we also have militarized police forces, asset forfeiture, no knock raids, and........
As a direct result of the failure of the war on drugs.

Make it all legal and quit giving out narcan let it be a self solving problem.

Making all drugs legal is like making speeding legal, it's all good until someone T bones your family.

Well we could legalize it all. We used to have opium dens, brothels, child labor (including in brothels), and a whole bunch of other "freedoms".

I don't see why something that grows naturally out of the ground should be criminalized. It should be an individual right. However, if you cause bodily harm to someone while under the influence the penalty should be more severe. I can get on board with that.

You can get hallucinate off 85 octane gasoline if you desire.

This is where that discussion we had about vengeance comes to my mind.

If someone is drunk or stoned and kills my kin, well, me and the rest of mine should get to kill them. Eye for an eye.

Thats the main reason I don't support legalization, more innocent people are going to be victimized, hurt or killed.

Are you saying that If someone isn't drunk or stoned and kills your kin that you still wouldn't want vengeance?

I don't see why you would be more upset over one than the other. As long as the person who chooses to consume whatever substance they desire does it without breaking any laws than I see no harm in it.

IMO, there are simply those who can control themselves and those who can't. Those who can shouldn't be punished for those who can't. You can apply that to many different issues. Firearms being one of them. Keep gov't out!

This is where we also used to have a set of gallows on the courthouse square and the appeals process was a simple yes or no one time question to the governor.

I guarantee if we went back to that there would be a whole lot less screwing around to find out.
