As we get close to the start of trapping season for many states in the USA, right now there are people crafting up legislation to ban trapping and the fur trade. I cannot stress enough the importance of being highly vocal and transparent about trapping, but to remember that being overly-ethical works wonders. Having what we call in the industry a "nested" approach works extreme wonders to prevent room for bans to even be talked about in the first place. This means that contacting your local government, state government, and federal government and talking about how great trapping is and what it does for your family. It takes less time to send an email or make a call about trapping and the fur trade than it does to conduct a daily check of 1/10th of your traps on the line. Do the right thing and contact your reps and your state association to remind them to keep putting fuel in the fire.
