I though someone had already taken Dayton's business over. No. No one took it over. His gf Joyce decided to buy roots this year but no one wanted anything to do with the fur end of things. We bought everything yesterday. All traps, fur processing equipment, gloves, old and new traps. All his antlers and everything fur related, lures, freezers, everything. We went to buy the antlers and ended up buying his fur business inventory

Dayton was a friend. Happy to see his stuff go to a good trapper friendly recipient. Very happy for you Cathy .... and Dayton too.
Jerrys been friends with Dayton for years. They hunted and fished together and Jerry sold him roots for along time. He sold fur to him as well. He liked jerrys southern otters and bought them for years. He loved my farm fresh eggs. Dayton ,I think, would be happy to know Jerry bought the stuff because Dayton knew Jerry loved trapping as much as Dayton did

Have fun on your "easter egg" hunt. I would love to go through all the dark corners and look behind all the cabinets and such. You never know what you'll find. Was he in business long?

a wv fur buyer passed away a few months back and theyre settling the estate..
So we went to buy antlers..which we got...and we ended up buying the whole business.
Lock stock and barrel
(We aren't planning to go into the business..but ya never know)
cases and cases of.leather gloves. Black rubber gloves, wire stretchers, traps,..new and used..fleshing beams, lures, chain, wire.
Too much stuff to believe.
Literally the whole kit and caboodle.
Now the work begins.
We have to catalog and load it tomorrow .
I'm catalogging as we go because we have no idea how much of what there is.
We.got a load of antlers in the truck and tomorrow we go back with the trailer to get more antlers and all the supplies.
Jerry will never have to buy certain stuff ever again in his lifetime.
It's truly an over whelming undertaking.
I think im more excited than Jerry is.
I can't wait to see exactly everything we got.
It was for one heck of a good price too.
Im.gonna be worn out before it's over but I am truly excited to see what we got and what we're gonna sell.
Once we figure it out, we'll have to get a business license.
Well cross that bridge when we come to it.
Good for you guys.Sometimes,,,things just present themselves.Sounds like at worse,,Jerry has a lot of supplies.
the wheels of the gods turn very slowly

He was in business probably 55 to 60 years. He was probably the biggest fur buyer and ginseng buyers in wv. We ent and got some.stuff today. I ended up with 3 tanned caribou hides, 8 or ten tanned elk hides..hair on..8 or 10 hair on deer hides and probably 200 tanned deer gides..fur off in white black and brown. Un freaking believable. I'm gonna post some antique trap pics tomorrow. He probably has 50..some Jerry or I have never seen before. The #15 Oneida newhouse was made in NY. Not pa

So with the new find of hides when are you going to start sewing some garments together. I'd thought of that but ya gotta have a heavy duty machine I think. There's probably 50 garment tanned coons too. Nice black and silver color. I can't wait to see what all in there.
