I was hoping that someone on here could help me out with any advice on setting up nets for MN whitefish netting. I have the legal nets, but I am looking for advice on what I should use for poles for staking the nets? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and PMs are fine also.

I’m not familiar with whitefish , however I do a lot of gill netting in our bays and ocean. Used to stake pogie nets with cedar poles. 3-4” in diameter, sharpen one end to stick in the sand/mud bottom.

All my nets are anchored now, using a 3/8” rope bridle , short length of chain then whatever size danforth for the condition. I use 25# in the ocean with really long bridles, and can get away with 12# in the shallow bay most times.

Just remember to properly mark your nets according to the law. I use high fliers with flag or poly balls. With license number painted on.

PM me if I can help.

John

I use 1/2” emt electrical conduit on the bank end and a 10 pd tie plate on deep end.

I think most folks around here use a weight and a float, not a stake. It won't be long and you will be dealing with ice.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Some of the best tulibee netting I’ve had was through the ice. Just depends on the lake and so many factors! Happy trapping! ScottW

Yeah, in about 2 days. We won't be seeing any above normal temps for quite a while.

Wife: That's the 4th time you've gone back for dessert, doesn't that embarrass you? Me: No, I keep telling them it's for you.
