I’ve never placed a trail camera there. I have gone across it a time or two just to scout, but it’s not a regular occurrence. I’m not the worst balancer, but I don’t want to push my luck walking across it every day or frequently.

How long is it and how deep is it?

To your question, a month or so before season I would make sure that there are small branches blocking all the off trails. Set trap on the easiest place to get off the log on a drag. I also like the idea of moving dirt in so you can bed the trap easier. Are there any crossings before or after the pole? I am sure it is the easiest place to cross but there maybe other areas that they can use.

100% I would stake 4 rebars, 2 on each side of your log. I would attach my two cables to 1 heavy anchor on alternate side so you only have to use 2 anchors. Then I would make 4 sets on slide locks that will force the animal down into the water, away from the approach of the bridge on both sides.

Take some pics, these are the exciting sets.

Yes, please take photos of sets, anchors, catches, and the trail camera shots if any.

Would the landowner allow you to expand the bridge? A second pole and some decking?

I agree that catching critters off and away from the pole would go far to not scare of the regulars. And would not reduce the catch.

I love unique spots like that for trail cameras.

To improve it remove other crossings, even cut them with a chain saw if they are to big to move. Make that the only crossing........jk

Thanks guys! I will definitely take some pics whenever I put some sets over there. This is the only dry place to cross for about 150 yards. The creek isnt all that deep and maybe 10-15 foot wide. Some spots are wider where it floods the sides, but none deeper than a couple foot. The bottom is nothing but muck so I would think it could be a deterrent to want to cross through the swamp. I would think the landowner would have no problem with me expanding the bridge, but I am honestly not willing to go through the effort and any expense associated with it. If I find a spot to set the pole with footholds I will definitely have them on drags or slide wires to retain the integrity of the crossing. I do like the idea of building up dirt on the edges for bedding. I may go ahead and do that on pull day to have it ready for next season.

Willy, I think a trail cam would provide some really cool shots of the crossing, I just have never fooled with bringing them out there before. I already considered bringing one this season to see the coyotes go through a high fence crossing, so may just toss a second one int he truck.

I appreciate the responses fellas. I know its a unique situation and hard to explain without actual pictures or seeing it in person. I will set my traditional sets as always, but sure hope to find an effective way to blind set the crossing and hopefully pick up a few I would have missed on scented sets.
