I have a few road cuts that I check once in a while. I find Ferns, Tree Bark, Shells, Sea Lillys, etc. I have only ever found 3 Trilobites, and that was counting a lot of man hours. This is in coal country of SW PA. Not much for Dinosaur finds around here.

I do check limestone rocks for seashells I find some every now and then.

Did a job crushing limestone on the Niagara escarpment. The whole things like one big fossil we would find thrse big bugs the size of your palm, lots of shells and paw prints

Edit- just Googled what trilobites are and thats what the bugs were. Found a crap load of them

Have found hundreds of fossil sharks teeth along the Calvert cliff formations here in Md.A few up to 3" or so.Also found a Pygmy spermwhale whale tooth,quite a few porpoise teeth,fossil whale bone and other small marine fossils.Would be fun finding dinosaur type fossils somewhere.

Fossils are proof of the existence of climate change.

Outside of Rawlins, WY we dug a 6" thick layer of a cliff and found all the dime size shark teeth you would ever want.

Not fossilized, but I was still pretty pumped to stumble upon this.

Went hunting out to Wyoming a few years ago. You could pick up a pocket full of what our guide said were squid fossils. Looked just like a stone bullet. I would guess it was their tentacles?

I’ve got a nice bunch of Dino bones, most duckbills and triceratops. Some Rex pieces. I’ve got a couple pieces of horn still holding the outer casing from triceratops.
Found a little piece of something poking out of a bank, turned out to be the complete vertebrae and ribs of a bison. U of M aged that at 14,500 years or so.
I also found a complete pelvis from something 70 million years back.About 18x16x 10 inches thick. Took two of us to get it loaded. I gave that one to a science museum, they still haven’t figured out what beast it was.

We always look for fossils along the Yukon river and other creeks in the area. Found this mammoth tooth while driving the atv along the beach.

This was pulled out of the foundation of an old smoke house that was torn down on my grandfathers farm in upstate NY. Probably could have come from anywhere prior to that in 1900.

Dug many pools in the Niagara escarpment. I was amazed how many fossils we'd see

Like victor#0 and others, I used to spend quite a bit of time "beachcombing" on the gravel beaches of the Kuskokwim, Yukon, Koyukuk, and other smaller rivers in Alaska. Found some interesting fossilized bones fairly regularly.

I found this one half way up the side of a mountain in Potter county PA I had never been there before . I had located the area using a map. There was a large spring seep there . I arrived at my destination about daybreak since I was not familiar with the area .I found a good spot to sit and waited for it to get light. The seep was a pretty good size and as the morning went along I had deer within sight all morning . And the spot had lots of rocks with the small shells in them .Based on my knowledge it was not a place I would think a fossil rock would be I saw 50 plus deer during the day and this rock was my trophy for that hunt .If I remember it right it was 1981Some how it seems not to be 40 plus years ago but it is .

Growing up on the warrior coal field in Alabama fossils were common everywhere you looked. Lots of plant, mostly ferns, in the coal and slate. I'm sure every parent grew tired of the fossil collection us kids would drag home. We also had limestone and chert in the area and that's where you found seashell and snail fossils.

The interesting one to me were the kettledrums found down in the mines. These were fossilized tree stumps. I'm told by miners these were actually dangerous and they were called kettledrums because of the rounded bottom of the root base seen on the mine roof. Dangerous because the trunk above is tapered and the whole thing could just drop out of the roof like a loose tooth. There used to be a big one on display in front of the Birmingham Public Library.

A huge open-pit phosphate mine near Aurora, NC has lots of fossils. The ore that is washed in the fertilizer factory is sold as gravel. No other rocks for miles. They call it refuse. Lots of shark teeth and mammal vertebrae in it. I once had about a gallon of shark teeth of all sizes, shapes, and colors. Gave many away to friends and customers.

The most fun I ever had was when the wife and I took a six-year-old grandson to a quarry site near For a modest fee, you get a bucket to sit on and a masonry hammer. The fossils are found in shale. We split the shale in half along the "grain" and look for the fossils. We mostly found fish. Kid-friendly half-day. "Dirt cheap too".

Reminds me of the guy who stopped by a redneck's home and asked if the redneck minded if he went into his woods to hunt for fossils?

The redneck said, "Sure, go ahead. Just don't shoot too close to the house."
