About a half hour ago my computer locked up and there were messages going across the screen saying it was compromised etc. Then a voice started talking and said do not unplug your computer call this number etc. With that I unplugged my computer. Waited a bit and plugged it back in and so far so good.

When it locked up I was on The Weather Channels web site. Is it ok to go back to that site or should I stay away from it.

I don't have much trouble with that site. I use it about daily. There are some pop-up adds that suck. Maybe that is what you had or you accidentally clicked on one of the other ads on there, I don't know but I wouldn't worry about it. You did the right thing and if it happens again, do it again, but I bet it won't.

Couple months ago I had a similar experience....only I wasn't smart enough to shut down and unplug. I called the number....long story short it was a scam. Ended up asking for $16,000.

Update any security software you have and scan your PC and you should be fine
