Did not want to muddy up Warrior's thread of the one he posted today but I also had an odd one this morning. All of these were caught in North Carolina. Do not think I have caught one this red before. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2022/11/full-17165-156786-pxl_20221111_125542085.jpg) And a blonde a few years ago sopping wet then put up (center pelt). ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2022/11/full-17165-156790-img_20200410_160015.jpg) And a blackish one. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2022/11/full-17165-156791-img_20170206_091618.jpg) Post up your unique color catches.

The pelt picture of the blonde I posted makes it look more red than it actually is. It is really more blonde, closer to the shade in the wet pic.

Only odd one I got here was many years ago. All light silver with a thin black strip down middle of its back. Really looked odd next to the others. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I wonder why you don't see these odd colors in western coyotes? Dog genes? If so, why no dog genes in western coyotes? Dog genes most likely the culprit, Wolfe genes too. There is plenty of DNA studies out there verifying this. The reason you don't see coyotes crossing with dogs out west is because there are plenty of other coyotes available to mate with. Other regions where coyotes have recently made the long trek to get there, likely did not always have another coyote to mate with when the mating season came in. I suspect that once coyotes become established in these new areas, the crossbreeding with dogs ceases to happen, but the tainted gene pool from prior generations will still continue to pop up for many years.
