I started coons last night, got a medium size one. Not impressed, he was mostly guard hairs. Have to wait another week before they are primo.


Just a weekend trapper...

Medium coon may never prime. Or at least not this year. If your season is open, see if the bigger ones are prime.

If there is no under fur today, 7 days is not going to get it done. Smaller coon that are still growing and developing muscle tissue which utilizes a lot of protein. Fur or hair is 99% protein so if there is not enough protein to go around on smaller younger coons they won't develop much if any under fur. In the north with longer winters many late litter coons never put on enough fat to make to spring.
