With all this talk about guns, I want to hear everyone's thoughts on favorite knife design. For instance, I am a big fan of The D.H. Russel Canadian Belt knife.
Although not a popular as guns, I would love to hear other trappers opinions on their favorite knife design.

Cant say I have a favorite design because most knives are good at one or two things and pretty much suck at the rest. Anyone that talks about the nessmuk knife needs to look at what Sears(Nessmuk) actually wrote/talked about.
Though if I do have to pick one knife...its going to be something that has a "stabby" point.

I have a Puma Skinner I bought almost forty-five years ago. I've caped Dall sheep, peeled the hide off grizzly and black bear, gutted deer and quartered moose with it. Decent knife with a lot of sentimental value to it.

Not my favorite knives, but I picked up these three last summer at a barn sale for 10 bucks. The two rapala filleters will get use,the one on the left is a german made knife.it says solingen germany and on the blade is written "original buffalo skinner in fancy cursive writing. It dont look like much of a skinner with the big finger guard on it,lol. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2022/11/full-21521-157085-dscf5234.jpg)

If only one knife a Puma Hunter’s Pal will do it. Other good knives are the Puma skinner and Puma Jagdmesser. There are also many custom knife designs that include a drop point or skinning point. I have a set of three made by a custom builder, Todd Orr who makes Skyblade knives in Bozeman, Montana. An all purpose, a skinner, and a caper. I also like the all purpose beaver skinner. Randall makes a good knife. I carry a custom #19 Bushmaster that has about the nicest stag handle i have ever seen.

Boco - the skinner looks like a Puma blade built as a generic knife. Puma has been making knives and registered in Solingen since 1769..
Of course the Rapala fillet knives are iconic.

I have ,and have used a lot of knives over the years, some that y'all have shown or mentioned. The handiest knife I use now is a cheap Mora companion, Carbon steel. Sharp, easy to resharpen, blade length is perfect and will do anything a knife is used for, No, it's not a hatchet, or a screwdriver but you can abuse it any way you want to, within reason...lol. Did I mention they're cheap?...

Thats like asking " What is your favorite screwdriver " As SNIPERB said they are a tool for a specific job. So I have about 10 favorite knives, depending the task at hand.
Let's go Brandon

So I have about 10 favorite knives, depending the task at hand. very true I took it to mean very useful multi purpose knife you carry but it could be taken many ways best skinner , best fillet knife ,best chefs knife and then those are even conditional to the job , skinning muskrat or Beef cow , filleting steaks or fish , cutting veg for soup for 2 people or 20.
