Just read an article about Polar bears and Brown bears crossbreeding. Said because of warming the Brown bears were going farther north than ever before. It said they had DNA test proving this.

Yup a semi rare event, but now there is DNA testing so some groups claim its new and scary. Since it couldn't be proven before they can claim it never happened before.

Seems to me there is hard data showing that the two groups (brown bears and polar bears ) split about 50,000 years ago. Gulo has a solid handle on that info I am certain
