Gave my wife horse riding lessons for our 11th anniversary and is loving it and so I wanna get her something for Christmas to help with that. I asked the lady giving lessons what she thought and while I appreciate her help, I’m thinkin she’s a little too over the top horse lady for me. Figured you guys might be able to share common sense experience on the matter.

She said: 1. Her own riding helmet 2. Fleece lined riding pants 3. Winter riding gloves.

I think: 1. I understand helmet 2.Riding pants? What makes it a riding pant? Is it uncomfortable to ride in bibs? Would merino bottoms under jeans make more sense? 3. Wouldn’t some insulated Kinco’s work? Or does a person need extra dexterity or something?

Idk a dang thing about this stuff. Any ideas or advice would be helpful

My advice is to get her away from horse riding while you aren't in too deep.

Western I believe. But the instructor has experience in both?

Haha much appreciated. I know the whole thing is expensive. But so is all things outdoors. Every add up the money spent on fish fillets or backstraps? If it keeps her happy, healthy, outside and learning I’d call it a good thing. Plus I think she’s hot on a horse lol

Next question are you going to look into gettinga horse. Because if so look it to her own saddle that fits her, then she can bling it out and eventually get matching head stalls, saddle pads, breast collars..

Yeah it’s coming. We wanted to get some formal education before diving in.

Riding breeches are more of an english/dressage thing and not really necessary but some like the look. They are short, think capri, and tight fitting through the thigh. The idea being better contact with the horse. Generally they are worn with riding boots, also tight fitting.

Haha yeah I get that. But in my world, when a guy gets married it’s about more than just you. Especially with kids. We experience life as a family, no matter whose activity. I’m good with that.
