Back when I was in high school, many years ago, a friend's dad was a salesman for a pharmaceutical company. He would give good kick-backs if his doctors made "x" number of prescriptions of a certain drug; tickets to Hawaii, professional sports tickets, etc.. I've been told that doesn't happen anymore; yea right.

Try 54, 5’7” and 198 and great cholesterol, lol. Well aren't you just awesome. JoMiBru, my cholesterol was about like yours and my doctor put me on 10mg Simvastatin about 5 years ago and it's really helped with no side effects for me. He said changes in my diet would likely make very little difference. A lot of times it's just how your body produces cholesterol and there isn't much you can do about it unfortunately.

High cholesterol is a scam don't worry about it ..
..salt your food don't worry about cholesterol if your not eating a high carb diet. As someone who has bad cholesterol, I've been researching it for a number of years. I've yet to find a doctor that says anything of this sort.

Manage as best you can with diet. Don't worry about animal fats, stay away from drugs, sugars and simple carbs; wheat, rice, potatoes, etc. I know it sounds opposite of what the Dr's are telling you, but remember, these are the same Dr's who told you that the covid vaccine would keep you from getting and spreading covid. Of course we now know they were dead wrong.

Wild game is virtually cholesterol free.

Doc says my cholesterol is high. LDL is 186, HDL is 71.
I don’t eat real bad, as an avid outdoorsman I believe in eating what you kill. So my diet contains a lot of red meat. Mostly lean red meat. No fast food, drink lots of water and try to have a vegetable with my dinner. 35 years old, 165 lbs 6’2” . Pretty active, always on the move don’t like sitting still.
Don’t necessarily want to use a statin, don’t like the idea of relying on medicine. Doc suggested red yeast rice supplement.
Looking for input from other outdoorsman with diets containing lots of red meat. I know trapperman ain’t a health forum lol but I respect you guys input as I’ve been on here a long time.
Is your Dad or Mom still alive? My Dad dropped dead at 52 (and others on his side of the family), really made me think about trusting "science" as far as life longevity was concerned. I take a statin, and a drug for triglycerides, both helped. Btw getting me to kick red meat would be like taking breathing away, lol!
Act like a blank, get treated like a blank. Insert your own blank!

Limiting carbs can be super beneficial to some people, but completely eliminating them and replacing them with straight fat is just insanity.

I never said eliminate cabs and replace it with fat.
I said lower your carbs and dont restrict eating fat. do eat it, whats on your meat, and butter, lard, olive oil, bacon grease, and cheese and eggs and fish. Good fats. Its really not that complicated, anyone that wants to get healthy and lose weight just has to stop or severely restrict eating, rice ,poatoes ,bread, sugar, beer, sugar drinks and fruit. Thats it. enjoy everything else and eat all you want. just do it during meals.

I was in the same boat as you, great shape young when I got tested. I have high hereditary cholesterol from both parents, funny thing was both good and cholesterol were high.I asked why is the good cholesterol so high my doctor couldn't provide that answer. He wanted to start me on a statin, as soon as he walked out of the room the nurse said Don't do the statin change your diet. He gave me free month of cholestor, said if you feel any effects stop taking it. After about 2 weeks of taking it I felt like I was hit by a mack truck 1 day. That was the end if stations for me. Cholesterol is in everything we love, I use to eat a lot of processed meats(lunch meat) I can't say I stopped eating them but have cut way back and eliminated the worse 1s. Along with milk, ice cream, cheese, beef, just cut back.

yukon is correct.
There are many cardiologists that support low carb diets. The SAD, Standard American Diet is what caused the epidemic of high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity in countries that follow that recommendation, US, Australia, etc.
Statins have some major draw backs health wise.
Your waist to height ratio, triglyceride number (hopefully under 70), and Apo A and Apo B, and C Reactive protein numbers are much better indicators of cardiovascular health. If your're not getting those tests from your Dr. request them.
Also Google low carb diets. There is a ton on information out there. Dr's get NO nutritional training in medical school.
