Wondering where it is better to catch beaver under the ice. The rivers and creeks and frozen over so open water is done till spring. Am I better better off to put conibears under the ice in the run next to the lodges or baited conibears next to the feed piles?

Baited snare poles or conibears between the house and feed pile. Snare poles are the better set up in my opinion. I prefer 8-10 inch snares myself.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

330s with H stands. Hop in the runs at the hut and feel with your feet and set them in the center. Around new years switch to baited sets.

I like baited snare poles if there's atleast 5 feet of water under the ice. But if the water under the ice is shallow I try to feel out the channels on bottom with my spud bar and plug them up with 330s.

Like he said. Early, bait is not so appealing Little tougher around here to set runs as most of these houses will have at least 5 feet of water if the beaver want to survive 6 months of winter.
