I wore wool pants 30 years ago then switched to the newer materials that claimed to be better but after sitting in the tree last week with my old wool jacket on I realized it’s time to get some new wool pants for late season deer hunting. What have you guys found to be the best quality in recent years

I have some Swiss Army wool BDU's that are great, got them from a surplus outfit. The General something or other I think.

Johnson Woolen Mills make a fine pair, and more than one model.

Woolrich traditional wool pants. I have wore them for over 50 years(not the same pair). I have a pair of pants and a pair of bibs right now. Wool is about all I wear but if it is really windy I pull a set of cheap rain gear over top to cut the wind.

Filson make the best wool coats, and I'm sure their wool pants are very nice also, but I've always wore military surplus for wool pants. If you look on line you can get military surplus from all sorts of countries militaries nowadays, and I have no idea which ones are good. Used to be very common to see them in thrift stores, the green ones with cargo pockets on the sides, I think they were worn a lot in Korea and World War II. Germany used some similar ones, but I think they might be the ones that made some that come up almost to your brisket like Steve Urkel pants. The pair I was wearing today are more of a dress uniform style, a little thinner and no cargo pockets, but nice tight weave. I don't even know where I got them, but they are the only decent pair I have right now.

Can't beat the price for military surplus if you can find them. I've had mine for more than 40 years.

Filson make the best wool coats, and I'm sure their wool pants are very nice also They're great pants, very well made but their site lists them at $445 a pair. Pricey! I have a pair along with a pair from Johnson Woolen Mills and some Cabelas Wooltimate with the Windshear lining. They're all good but the Cabelas are the warmest but also the least durable of the bunch. Wool is the way to go.

I bought some surplus Check Armly wool pants 25 years ago and still use them. Really keep you warm. Wish I could find something better for my feet. I wear stocking hats as they are warmer. Does anyone know of a billed cap that keeps you warm. The bill would help when looking into the sun either early or late in the day.
Bryce Stormy Kromer. I'd never heard of them until Nessy brought them up last year. I bought a hat and vest.
