Spend a little extra for a mid drive you will be glad you did. The hub drives are cheaper for a reason. Also it costs a little more but make sure the drive does not have nylon gears I learned that the hard way.
ran into a guy in Eastern Iowa last week using one on a WMA. After walking in and out of that place for 4 days, literally up hill both ways, I can easily say he's the smarter of us.

Bernie you are right about some things. BUT you have to be aware of the watts. 750 and under is still classed as a bike not motor vehicle. Can be used on federal lands and state wma here. Mid drives Normally fall into the 1000 watt cat and must have a disability permit to use on trails and in Federal hunting areas.

The bike in the video can be switched back and forth between 750 and 1000. Really nice feature.
