Heart disease, strokes, and diabetes was unknown in hunter/gather cultures; they lived off of fats and meat. These diseases showed up with the advent of agriculture/grain production.
Look at native people from far northern latitudes. They ate almost exclusively fats and meats and never had those disease problems until being introduced to bread, potatoes, sugar, soda pop, etc.. now as a group they have become extremely unhealthy particularly with diabetes.

Those people had a much shorter life expectancy as a whole. They died from other causes long before heart disease came to the fore-same with cancer. It is known that as diseases that kill are eradicated, and life expectancy is advanced, new unknown diseases will be the new killers.

^^^^^^^ Boco, I often see this quoted when referring to pre Columbian North American Natives "they had a much shorter life expectancy as a whole". That is only partly true. One of the main reasons for a shorter average life expectancy was the extremely high rate of infant mortality which skewed the average downward, but once a person reached maturity their life expectancy was just as long if not longer than that of Europeans. The old ones were not dying from heart disease related issues. Some of the longest living people groups currently exists off of high fat diets. Have you considered the "French Paradox"? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_paradoxOf course the medical establishment in the USA and the UK are doing contortions trying to explain it away. But the paradox occurs in other countries and regions as well; Italy, Spain, etc..

I found out in October I had carotid artery’s disease,,, less than 50 percent blockage,, but chances are, if my carotid has blockage, I probably have it elsewhere. So I went and got my triglycerides and other stuff checked,,, my triglycerides were 250 my my hdl was 30… don’t remember what my ldl was,,,, so I went totally crash course,,, I tested about a month after that first test,,, and dropped my triglycerides down to 107,,,, but I knocked my total cholesterol under 100,,, which ain’t good,,, it has to be around 160. So I got to get that figured out. I am in a statin. Carbs can kill…. Most of us don’t realize what we are eating until we realize what we are eating

Yes. The invention of trans fats, Crisco, etc., and sugar accelerated sticky blood and insulin resistance 1,000 fold. Recall Patrice's thread on low-carb eating, and how well it levels BP and insulin troubles. It is amazing. The program only recommends strictness in carb foods in the BEGINNING....to lower the problem points in the body. After a short time, carb foods can be added , gradually, to a moderate intake for life, after the balance that is needed is achieved . A completely reasonable program that resets the body and helps healing. On her thread, which was extensive, with photos of great easy meals and extensive explanations of info, are all on her thread. That thread needs to be archived, IMO. Maybe someone, wolfie, or whoever, can do that. As these subjects come up often enough to warrant going to archives to access that very good thread. Patrice is knowledgeable, as few others are on these medical things, with extensive education on these medical issues, along with Lymes treatments and other things of value. Here is that thread. All the info one needs is included in this amazing exchange of study, experience, and photos. https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/6964832/1

Doc says my cholesterol is high. LDL is 186, HDL is 71.
I don’t eat real bad, as an avid outdoorsman I believe in eating what you kill. So my diet contains a lot of red meat. Mostly lean red meat. No fast food, drink lots of water and try to have a vegetable with my dinner. 35 years old, 165 lbs 6’2” . Pretty active, always on the move don’t like sitting still.
Don’t necessarily want to use a statin, don’t like the idea of relying on medicine. Doc suggested red yeast rice supplement.
Looking for input from other outdoorsman with diets containing lots of red meat. I know trapperman ain’t a health forum lol but I respect you guys input as I’ve been on here a long time.
Be thankful for a doctor that recommends an alternate! Rare

98 % genetic, good luck with trying foods to beat it. I tried eating salmon and halibut also trout grilled with salad for close to a year also very little fats, mine went up and up. Been on Statin drugs since 90, I think no side effect LDL is down also blood pressure and I eat corn fed beef, pork, butter also wild game. Science believe it or not. They will test your liver function as some folks have issues with that but there are different drugs now. Yep...genetic. I have a brother who didn't want to go the statin route and just recently found that he's blocked up with so much arterial gunk that he's 80% sure to have a stroke within the next 5 years. If he would have started taking statins when the docs first told him he should he would not be in that situation today. I've been on statins for a few years now and am looking good so far. The bad part is once your veins start calcifying (with the help of LDL cholesterol) it never goes away no matter what lifestyle changes you make.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I never said eliminate cabs and replace it with fat.
I said lower your carbs and dont restrict eating fat. do eat it, whats on your meat, and butter, lard, olive oil, bacon grease, and cheese and eggs and fish. Good fats. Its really not that complicated, anyone that wants to get healthy and lose weight just has to stop or severely restrict eating, rice ,poatoes ,bread, sugar, beer, sugar drinks and fruit. Thats it. enjoy everything else and eat all you want. just do it during meals. Avoiding fruit..that is terrible advice. In fact fruit is one of the best ways to increase HDL Nope fruit is a bag of sugar and carbs with a little vitamin C that can be had by eating other foods that are good for you. Eat Oatmeal like helps with cholesterol drink tea that has good stuff in it. Drink ginger tea that fights cholesterol also black tea and green tea are your friends. More bad advice..oatmeal is very high in carbs. Not good for anything. Dont take my word for it. Go to YouTube and search Keto diet...dont watch the video just read the comments. you will read first hand accounts of people that lost hundreds of lbs and saved their lives, unclogged their arteriesthrough diet changes and became healthy without any drugs.

Been on 40 mg of Lipitor, now the generic, for about 40 years. Slowly went bald. Cholesterol is great now. Started at 315 I recall. Charles, just curious, do you have diabetes or extra weight that you can’t get rid of ? I’m just trying to get my head around this. 40 years of Lipitor ?

Statins:
I remember a broadcast on XM Radio's Doctors Channel that the subject matter was statins. The leading cardiologist on the broadcast was pro statins. He was such an advocate for statins that he even mentioned that some food products could be enhanced with statins to help the general public. He compared the need for statins with iodized salt, vitamin-enriched milk, bread, and fluorinated water.
Statins may not be for everyone, but they brought my cholesterol down 150 points with no side effects I am aware of. I am not diabetic but I am overweight. I went on a vegetarian diet for a month and my cholesterol came down 9 points. Took the meds.

Cholesterol is produced by your body. Just like salvia, tears, blood. your body won't produce too much. The human body photosynthesizes cholesterol meaning if you eat too much your body wont produce as much to compensate. Its a total boogie man scam.
And long as you eat right you really dont ever have to worry about it. The sugar and carbs in a food will kill you but cholesterol wont. I have yet to hear of someone dying from too much cholesterol.
The drugs to treat high cholesterol will kill, you though The diet you mention will help all of that. But, there is a downside to it however, constipation. For me, it was a serious problem. I tried everything, metamucil, olive oil twice a day, fish oil twice daily, even stool softeners did little to help. Beer seemed to be about the best solution and that was far from perfect. I don't want to have to drink beer every day to get some relief. There are always some side effects to drugs. It's best to avoid taking them.
