I am brand spanking new to this forum, not to trapping been doing that for 50+ years. I live and trap in northcentral Pa. where we have a healthy bear population. My question for the group is "How do you keep bears out of your sets?" This fall so far I have had several sets where a bear stepped on the trap leaving hair in it..luckily none have been held by a toe or two until I checked my line the next morning.
I am not setting on bone piles but rather 50-150 yds away on trails going to and from them. I have tried switching from coyote to bobcat urine and from meat based baits to fish based....doesn't seem to matter to these bears .

If they're using trails, get off the trails or wait for em to finally go to bed for the winter. They do seem to be more active this fall.

Use gland lures and no food lures at all until they go to bed.
