I would call a year with no activity a standstill. At least we have our state agencies working hard, advocating for science based management, putting all kinds of pressure on the Feds. Right? I was hoping WI would be the state to add pressure but it looks like everyone is content to sit on their hands.

at this point I don't even think I would complain if the WI DNR just hired a few trappers to thin them down and donated all the hides to the tribes
as dumb as that would be it would waste less money and take more wolves than the constant court battle

As long as we have our current governor and his cronies, It'll never go through even if it passes by the feds.

hey can the tribes take wolves?
anyone 1/8th or better here I bet people would pay a bounty to have you trap them out of their hunting areas

Donner, Democrat president, Democrat governor.
You knew the answer before you asked the question.
In MN the tribes have no interest in harvesting wolves.

They have actual biologists, but that doesn't mean they are pro hunting anything. When I was a wildlife management major 20 years ago, over half thr people in my classes were anti everything.

I would never agree to that, and I would push everybody I know to make a comment against that too. I have all the respect in the world for native americans but they dont just get to get all the wolf hides just because. I want the wolf hides, and know plenty of others that do too. The states that have granted different privileges to take any game differently than you and me, its always been an issue. Tax dollars for a license to do something that feeds a persons family, just to let another group use whatever it wants to take the resources is just blasphemy. Conservation either matters or it doesnt, no in betweens, or settling. I made a comment for trapping only management, no hunting.

I don't think an indian would ever kill a wolf. I find that hard to believe. they have to be feeling the squeeze same as other people in the same areas , significantly fewer deer and wolf tracks everywhere .

I made a comment for trapping only management, no hunting. to be clear I absolutely disagree with my own suggestion on principal. However This can be a fight for the next 40 years tossing billions of dollars at legislators and lawyers to get nothing till we are all dead or nearly so or some other solution could be offered like the one I offered. so if we could keep deer, habitat and and keep wolves down with some less than ideal , less than right , "temporary" option it is worth considering.

An individual native might kill a wolf but the tribes are against it. They feel the wolf is sacred https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/22/us/wolf-hunts-native-tribes-wisconsin-cec/index.htmlIt's the same thing over here.
