So I have a standing request at the PD for roadkilled deer since the GFs son in law is a POlice. He gave me two this morning. The guts were busted and the back quarters kinda skinned off with offal on the meat. Can this be washed off effectively or is the meat gonna stay tainted once it's tainted???????

I personally don’t try to wash any off. I will slice the top layer of meat off that has come into contact with the gut material. Not sure how easy deer are to come by there, but here they are easy to get so im not fooling with meat that taste like gut just to get a couple more ounces

Cut off the front shoulders if good and maybe the back straps. Throw the rest out.

I have had a busted gut and spilled some on meat and grabbed the hose and cleaned it off right away

otherwise I would do the gutless method on road kill , sacrifice the tenderloins and not open that mess up

when I do salvage beef and I am skinning and bits of dust an manure are getting on the meat (most of the time salvage beef starts laying in a muddy mess with the Vet working on it) on the legs I let them dry out the surface and peel/fillet that dried layer off the meat changing my gloves and knives regular as I go

I ended up cutting off the top layer of meat and tossed it. I will keep it separate from the rest.

Wipe it off, wash it off, trim it off, Offal is only skin deep.
