Just had a pair of Trumpeter Swans fly over the house,30 feet over my head. I could hear them coming a long ways away. What a wonderful chorus of sound.

Had that happen a few days ago at work, I was in the lot when a flock of 25/30 went over then a few minutes later another and then a third, amazing amount of sound from them that precedes and then lingers in their presence

I have them fly over head several times a day when checking traps. Snow on the field and fog in the air makes is somewhat surreal at times. Several years ago I had a flock fly over me as several deer stood at the corner of the field as I was making a set. It looked like it a Terry Redlin print.

Yes, a magical and wild sound when flying over.
We hear and see them every fall and spring.
Some drop down for a rest on our lake.
About a week ago we had a nice group.
Today we have only one.

Minnesota was instrumental in bringing the Trumpeters back, from the brink of extinction.

Yes Tom along with WI and the crane federation. The foundation created the swan dummies that helped the young ones they hatched migrate south and it is working out quite well.

Several of the waterfowl ponds in northern WI have small swan flocks on them every fall. Most I have seen on one is 12 to 14. How big of flocks have some of you seen.
I was paddling on a bout a 20-30 acre pond this fall and 5 took off. They almost needed the whole thing to get up. Interesting also that they turn into the wind just like the airlines do.

They taste fine. We have a swan season here and tags are available from the NCWRC as a lottery draw. 25yrs ago we used to buy leftovers over the counter but that suddenly changed one year.

Small flocks of a dozen or so are not uncommon around here this time of year. Occasionally I will find a large flock of 50 or more feeding in fields. Fun to hear them talk.

John, you have a Tundra swan season,I believe. There is no season on trumpeters. But they would probably taste the same.
During the winter, when there is open water on the St.croix, there are at times, large numbers of trumpeters.
The tundra swans pass over here on their way south, the flocks of those swans are very large.
